Pet Goat Killed in Drive By Shooting

SANTA FE, N.M. -- Santa Fe Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of a pet goat.

According to police, a green van drove up and fired several shots at some goats that lived at home on the 1200 block of Declovina Street.

One of the goats, named Maria, was killed and police do not know whether or not the act was random or targeted.

"I walk my dogs by here to see the goats and they walk their goats by my house," said Nancy Ennis, who lives in the neighborhood. "I just feel sick about it."

Ennis said the goats were part of the community and fears that other pets might become targets of the shooters.

"I could have been walking by here with my dogs," said Ennis. "The bullets could have went through somebody's house. Something needs to be done."

Police Chief Aric Wheeler said he is concerned and wants to make an arrest as soon as possible to prevent the shooter from acting out again.

I told my bf that when we buy a house with some acreage, I want a goat. I think they are adorable and they "mow" the lawn!

A family up the hill was having trouble like this. We went up to clean after they moved and dead rabbits were still in their cages, down to fur & bones. A dog was poisoned too.

People who harm animals and children are evil. Plain and simple.
