Police 'closing in' on Guy's killer as new baby son arrives
Murder victim Scott Guy's father believes police are closing in on the person who gunned down his son.

Guy's widow, Kylee, gave birth to their second child on Thursday – 10 weeks after her 31-year-old husband was shot in the driveway of his Feilding farm in the early hours of July 8.

As his family celebrate the "joyful" birth, the young farmer's father, Bryan Guy, has spoken of how he was confident police were getting closer to bringing his son's killer to justice.

Asked if he believed police were following strong leads, Bryan told Sunday News: "Oh yes. They have just said to us they are having to go through a lot of detail. We are quite confident that they will get the case solved. I am sure they will... it is just going to take a bit of time.

"The confidence we have in the police is pretty strong."

Guy was shot several times outside his Aorangi Rd, house while Kylee and their two-year-old son Hunter were sleeping.

About 40 police officers are working on the homicide case.

This week they launched another "phase" in the inquiry, seeking information about Guy's attendance at a farming conference in Invercargill with his brother-in-law, Ewan MacDonald, two weeks before his death.

Inquiry boss Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said police were interested in any "after-conference activities that Scott may have attended or participated in".

"The relevance of this phase is to identify if there were any incidents that we are otherwise unaware of that may or may not have occurred in Invercargill during this time, as the conference was only two weeks prior to Scott's death," Schwalger said.

Police wanted information on any sightings of Guy in the Invercargill CBD between June 20-24. Bryan Guy said police had kept the family abreast of all developments. He stressed he did not believe his son's murder was related in any way to his trip to Invercargill. "I don't think so. I think they are just covering it off to make sure they get all the bases covered," Bryan said.

"The boys came back really motivated and excited after attending that conference, with new ideas. [He spoke] of people that he had met and talked to. They were really on a high."
