    “Welcome” sign in Orange County

I don’t understand why some people feel their constitutional rights are being violated unless they can violate some one else’s rights
It's like some feel the constitution protects their thought processes or life style and no one else's
What's wrong with a community asking visitors to comply with their lifestyle, it's not like they're trying to enforce anything or even asking anyone to stop by.
    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2010/08/...s-accordingly/

KIRYAS JOEL, N.Y. (CBS 2) – You may never see a more unusual “Welcome” sign in Orange County.

The tradition in the village of Satmar Hasidic Jews is modesty. Even on the hottest of days, most residents cover up from head to toe. But visitors don’t necessarily follow that tradition, and now the main synagogue is asking them to comply.
Congregation Yetev Lev posted signs at the village’s entrance – in both English and Spanish – asking outsiders to cover their legs and arms, use appropriate language and maintain gender separation in public.

But the sign struck a sour note with some.
“They’re telling us that we can’t come into their community unless we dress a certain way,” said Adia Parker, an Orange County resident.
“I feel like my constitutional rights are being violated,” said Tyrone Wheeler, a day laborer in the village seeking work.
A village trustee pointed out the signs said nothing about consequences for violating these guidelines – because there are no consequences.
“We’re not threatening anyone,” said Rabbi Jacob Freund. “Everybody is free to come in and be the same, like all other places in the United States.”

I agree that Constitutional rights are not being violated, but I disagree with the sign.
It's a free country, so we should be able to dress anyway we want. Hell, i think if i wanted to go topless, i should be able to.

It's a sign. On a synagogue. I rarely ever pay attention to religious signs.

When I went to Tennessee and Kentucky there was a huge billboard on the side of the highway depicting a graphic image of Jesus, bleeding on the cross, stating something like Repent Sinner! Images like that were all over the place to my astonishment (never seen anything like that in NY). I didn’t like the signs and some of them made me cringe but I didn't feel my rights were “violated”.

I felt violated when I found out that such a thing as a dry town exists and I could not buy alcohol anywhere in some town in Kentucky! I still find this hard to believe. A dry town.

But that's the point, they're not saying you can't just asking you not to
No biggie, just some people feel the constitution was created to protect them from other points of view

I had the same problem in Texas, dry county, felt my rights had been violated :-)

If this sign were on a mosque you can bet your bottom dollar it would be international news and there would be people picketing outside screaming about stopping shariah law.

The signs are at the entrances to the community, on private property, and privately paid for. They do look similar to many Welcome signs in various cities... just oddly worded. I would think they were official if I saw them. I wouldn't be changing my clothes because of it, though.

As said in above posts, they aren't demanding or denying entry unless you comply...they are just asking. As for the dirty looks? Hell, I give 'em to braless fat ladies in tank tops, shirtless men with man boobs and (god help me) women and men who think it's sexy to show their buttcracks and camel toes(for the women). I have been to Wal Mart at 2AM; there are things in there that only come out at night!

I don't see what the problem with the sign is. It's on private property, it is their *village*
If someone asked you not to dress a certain way when you go to their home, you have two choices, either dress the way they ask you, or don't go.

If you go to Temple, you're required to wear appropriate clothing. Why should the village be any different?

If it bothers you so much that they request you to dress a certain way when inside their village, then don't go.

HG- if you go the site where the article is posted you will notice many posters writing about Sharia law and of course blaming this on the Muslims. (this morning those were the comments). Somehow Muslims are responsible for it all.
