Police officer who was employee of the month accused in rape

B]Police officer / airman accused in rape of Nicholls student[/B]

A Thibodaux Louisiana police officer has been arrested in the alleged rape of a 22-year-old Nicholls State University student.

35-year-old Corey Morris was arrested Friday and booked with simple rape.

Nicholls State University Police Sgt. Michael Richard says Morris, who was on-duty and in uniform, allegedly raped the intoxicated student after giving her a ride home from a downtown Thibodaux bar in his patrol car.

Morris said the officer following the woman into her apartment where the alleged rape occurred.

Thibodaux Police Chief Craig Melancon said Morris has been suspended without pay.

Morris was released from jail Saturday after posting a $50,000 bond.

The city's website says that Mayor Charles Caillouet and the City of Thibodaux employees honored Officer Corey Morris at the May 2009 Employee of the Month Meeting. Mayor Caillouet presented him with a City of Thibodaux flag.

The city's site says Morris also serves in the U.S. Airforce.

It just means the victim was incapacitated and was unable to give consent. So, although she wasn't kicking and screaming and yelling no... what he did is still considered rape.

It doesn't downplay the act at all, just helps clarify. Some people claim if the victim doesn't actually say "NO" then it isn't rape...this term clarifies that yes, it is still rape.

I read an essay by a feminist that suggested we should call this kind of assault "grey rape". Which makes sense, until you try to say it out loud. Grape just sounds too harmless to describe this...
