Ebonee Bowers Accused Of Stomping Her Baby's Face In

Ebonee Angelica Bowers, 23, has been charged with child abuse and inflicting great bodily injury on a child. Bowers is accused of striking her daughter’s head several times against a floor and stomping on the child’s face while wearing shoes.
    [...]

Bowers told the judge, over a video connection from the Anderson County Detention Center, that she felt intimidated and that was why she confessed to hurting her daughter. Bowers did not say who might have intimidated her.

“I really, really did not do this,” she said tearfully. “This man, he scared the living daylights out of me to the point where he made me say I did these things. I didn’t. I really, really didn’t. I love my baby.”

Bowers told police that her child had fallen.

Bowers’ boyfriend, Dametrius Wadell Freeman, 22, who is not the biological father, also was arrested on charges of unlawful neglect of a child for not providing medical care.
    [...]

Dametrius Freeman told the judge over a video connection that he never saw the baby get hurt “but she wasn’t feeling good. So I did everything I could to prevent this from happening.”

After the bond hearing, Freeman’s family and friends stood outside the magistrate’s building where they shared cell phone photos they said showed burns on the child’s body, burns they said happened in late July and said Bowers told them the burns had happened at a day care.

Bowers has two other children, a 17-month-old daughter who is the twin of the injured child and a 2-year-old boy, neither of whom showed signs of abuse. Both of those children have been placed into protective custody.

Anderson County Investigator Todd Owens gave detailed testimony Friday morning about the brutal injuries inflicted on a 17-month-old girl.
    [...]

"She gave a confession, stating that she had become frustrated with the child, grabbed the child by the arms, began to shake the child, hit her head several times on the floor and then laid the child down on the floor and used her foot to stomp on the child's face twice-while wearing shoes," said Owens.

Bowers appeared very distraught and cried throughout the hearing as Owens discussed the child's injuries.
    [...]

According to medical records, the child had multiple fractures to the face, eye sockets, cheekbones, four skull fractures and bleeding on the brain in at least two areas.
    [...]

Deputies also said Freeman and Bowers denied the 17-month-old immediate medical attention and waited more than 24 hours before bringing the baby to the hospital.

They just LOOK evil and angry. A mother's face should not instill fear in a child and this bitch? That look on her face chills me to the bone.

Heal quickly baby girl!!! Has their been any information on the girl's condition or am I missing it?

This isn't the latest update, looking for something more recent on baby Imani's condition...
Aug. 9An Anderson County mother was denied bond by a judge Friday in a case in which deputies say she stomped upon her 17-month-old daughter causing fractures to the face and skull.

The baby, a twin that family members say is named Imani, remains in critical condition at the hospital.
The VIDEO here, more recent date states the baby is slowly recovering.
I'm a little confused when listening to the video I understand that the bf said the baby fell from the counter when Bowers was at work. So did HE beat the baby while she was at work and put the fear in her to lie?
I really, really did not do this,” she said tearfully. “This man, he scared the living daylights out of me to the point where he made me say I did these things. I didn’t. I really, really didn’t. I love my baby.”
Would not surprise me at all if he was the one that actually abused baby girl as a 24 hr. period went by before she got medical help for her child, could be he wanted her to get the story straight before getting anyone involved. NOT in any way excusing this behavior but sure would like to know who was the baby-beating bastard, clearly they both delayed help and makes them both guilty.

Either way baby suffered tremendously at the hands of two assholes and both deserve grave punishment. Heal completely baby Imani!

EDIT: I'd like to stomp on BOTH their faces!!!

    Thank you Silva!!

I hope she recovers w/o any permanent damage but from the sounds of it, I'm not sure that's going to happen :( I personally don't care who actually did the damage. They both deserve to be gutted and thrown to a pack of wild animals to finish them off. How anyone can inflict that kind of rage on a child is completely beyond me!

Doctors testified Monday that extensive skull fractures Imani Bowers received when she was 17 months old likely saved her life.

The girl's mother, Ebonee Bowers, is on trial on charges of child abuse and child neglect, accused of stomping her child and slamming the toddler's head into the floor in August 2010.

The trial began Monday in an Anderson County courtroom with a jury of five men and seven women.
    [...]

Assistant Solicitor Catherine Huey said Bowers' confession spells out what happened.

Imani had been crying and Bowers shook her, Huey said.

"(Imani's) head hit the floor, then (Ebonee Bowers) got up and stomped her face at least a couple of times," Huey said.

Bowers did not seek medical attention for Imani for about two days, Huey said.

After jurors were shown graphic pictures of Imani's injuries, Dr. Christopher Troup of Greenville testified that the girl's injuries were among the worst he had seen in a child.

Troup and Dr. James Reese, of AnMed Health, each testified that there was no way for Imani's injuries to have come from falling off anything inside the apartment, including mattresses, kitchen and bathroom counters or cribs.

The doctors agreed that the injuries were worse than what they had seen from children who suffered serious trauma, such as falling from second- and third-floor windows or roofs or being involved in significant auto accidents.

"I've seen a kid whose head was run over by a truck tire and it was not as severe," Troup said. "It was so severe, it saved her life. (The brain) can only swell so much. If you have swelling, it's like a closed box. The brain swelling could have killed her."

Doctors would have needed to surgically release pressure from two different brain hemorrhages, he said, if the skull had not been so fractured already.

Reese said that "tears or other fluids" were dripping out of Imani's right eye in the emergency room and her face was so swollen and bruised that her eyes couldn't open. Imani could only whimper or moan and was able to grip with only her right hand, Reese said.

Troup said he has continued to treat Imani and she has "blossomed better than I had feared she might" but lingering damage including an increased likelihood of seizures may not show signs for several more years.

Defense attorney Bruce Byrholdt said there were two adults in the home, Bowers and her boyfriend, Dametrius Wadell Freeman, 24.

Freeman faces a pending charge of child neglect for allegedly failing to report the same injuries to Imani. He is on a witness list for the trial but did not testify Monday.

Ebonee Bowers bent over in tears as she was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years behind bars for neglecting to take her child to get treatment after then-17-month-old Imani had been nearly fatally injured.

Bowers was found guilty of child neglect on the third day of her Anderson County trial but the jury deadlocked on the other charge of child abuse.

Because of the deadlock, Judge Lawton McIntosh called a mistrial on the abuse charge but sentenced Bowers for the lesser neglect offense. He told jurors that another trial on the abuse charge was likely.

"It is but for the grace of God that you're not up here on murder charges," McIntosh told Bowers as he sentenced her.

Imani's skull was crushed in August 2010. The 3-year-old is now recovering with grandparents in Georgia and is being treated by several therapists.
    [...]

Bowers told sheriff's deputies that she had slammed Imani's head into the floor and stepped on her head while wearing white Crocs after becoming frustrated, but she made those statements in a confession she recanted shortly after signing it nearly two years ago.

No physical evidence was presented at the trial, which largely hinged on the disputed confession and an earlier statement in which Bowers said her child fell from counters or mattresses. Forensic tests of Bowers' shoes came back negative and doctors could not say exactly what had caused the injuries but they said stomping and slamming would be consistent with the skull fractures.

Bowers, 25, pleaded for a lenient sentence Wednesday.

"I want to keep making positive changes in my life," said Bowers, a certified nursing assistant seeking to become a registered nurse. "I do apologize for my wrongs. At this time I know I was wrong."

Bowers said she wished she had taken Imani to the hospital immediately and acknowledged that she should have while strongly denying to the jury that she had ever harmed her daughter.

Bowers said she took Imani to AnMed Health's Minor Care offices, two days after first seeing a significant knot on the child's head and at least half a day after seeing the child's face swollen with bruises.

Imani could only groan and moan when she arrived at the minor care offices, where workers immediately sent the child to the emergency room and then she was flown to Greenville for treatment by a pediatric neurosurgeon.

Bowers' defense attorney, Bruce Byrholdt, contested the abuse charges. Byrholdt agreed that failing to treat Imani quickly was "unpardonable" but he said that Bowers was scared.

She said on the witness stand, while jurors were not in the courtroom, that her boyfriend, Demetrius Freeman, 24, was the only other person who could have crushed Imani's head. Judge McIntosh ruled that jurors were not allowed to hear Bowers' allegations that Freeman had abused and intimidated her. The judge made the ruling to avoid a legal issue known as third-party guilt.

Bowers was allowed to tell jurors that she was scared and felt that sheriff's deputies had coerced her into making the confession.

Freeman faces the lesser charge of child neglect but not an abuse charge.

How can the jury be deadlocked on the child abuse charge? What did they think caused the skull fractures? The most severe of the charges and that's the one they couldn't agree upon? Fucking stupid

Probably because they couldn't say exactly who caused the injuries. It could have been her penis that did it and that caused them to have "reasonable doubt". It's hard to blame the jury when the prosecutors didn't prove that she was the one that did it.
