Newborn Found Alive In Louisville Trash Bin

A baby found abandoned near an apartment trash bin in Louisville has survived and is in good condition.

The Courier-Journal reported a resident taking out her trash told police she saw something moving in newspapers on the ground. She checked and found the baby, who a police spokeswoman said was naked, but had been cleaned and its umbilical cord tied.

Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said the infant was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital and appears to be no more than two days old and in good health.

Child Protective Services was expected to take custody of the child Wednesday.

I really don't understand how someone could put any living being, baby or otherwise, out in a dumpster like discarded banana peels and junk mail.

Seriously, how can someone look into the eyes of such a helpless creature and think they don't need to treat it any better than yesterday's over-tapped coffee grounds?

Maybe since the baby was cleaned, umbilical cord cared for, and on the ground and not inside dumpster, the ultimate wish was for the baby to be found, cause baby inside dumpster wouldn't have been found.

    You are probably right, cubby.

However, I still have very little sympathy for a rent-a-vag (sorry, can't call her a mother if she doesn't act like one), that would do such a thing. Even in Kentucky, even in the most conservative parts of the United States, there are options for women to give up their child for adoption to loving parents who would care for it, or to abort the pregnancy in early term.

Fear is no excuse for this sort of behavior.

Edit: As a side note, what could have happened if the first thing to arrive to this dumpster was a garbage truck?

I agree, better than IN the dumpster but I must agree further, sorry no sympathy for the one who left the baby by the dumpster. You bother to clean, and dispose of baby by a dumpster ground, you can bother to leave baby in a safe place.

SO very happy baby was not injured, I can think of a slew of things that could have gone wrong, heck someone stepping on baby or dropping a heavy box on top of baby for starters. Simply no regard for life. She should be left bound, naked under a heap of newspapers, that would give her somewhat of the idea but still no way close as baby is oblivious to the new world and the potential dangers.

    Be happy little one.

You know, it's cases like this that make me want there to be such a charge as "attempted involuntary manslaughter" simply because the person who did that knew that they were putting their child in mortal danger, and it was merely through providence that nothing bad happened.

No, no, no...I agree with you guys...it was the wrong thing to do!!!

Just I guess I have to see some good in it even if the 'mom' (and I can't hardly believe it was anybody but the female birthing unit) is not responsible for it.
You guys all, are right, there was a hundred other right things to do and not have to take the baby to a dumpsite.

I don't get how with all the choices we have now a days that these women feel that leaving these babies to die, is a better choice. It goes to show you that there is no value of human life in these people's eyes.

You're all overreacting, I'm sure she just accidentally misplaced the baby and someone else just happened to find it before she did.

I'm sorry but this bitch took the cowardly way out. Kentucky has the safe haven law there. I think she just couldn't bare to look anyone in the eyes when she handed the baby over. I think she was too worried about how it would make her look. If she was thinking about the baby and not just of herself she would have relinquished the baby to safe place. No reason to do these type things anymore. Abortion is legal, Adoption is free, taking the baby to the hospital will cost you nothing. Fuck her for leaving that baby by a trash can like trash.

How lucky the finder wasn't a jackboot wearing man. I know plenty that would not have hesitated to stomp the hell out of moving newspapers, assuming there was a rat there and what fun to kill it.
