Dawn Brantley School Teacher/Nurse Arrested for Child Porn/Meth

Dawn Brantley, an ex-school teacher and licensed nurse was arrested at her home in Thomaston GA for child pornography and possession of methamphetamines and paraphenalia.

This is my hometown and thought you guys might like to know what's going on in a really small town these days.

Yeah it is scary, I called my sister to see if she had taught my nephews but she didn't know of her, thank goodness.

There is a picture if anyone would like to find it and post it for me, I tried 3 times to get this posted and I kept losing it somewhere. so when I got this much posted I quit while I was ahead.

Anyway the picture shows a normal looking woman smiling into the camera, it is just so umbelievable to me. She also has 3 children that she has now lost. Why would a so-called normal, professional intelligent(it sould seem) woman do something so incredibly stupid.

You would be surprised. Appearances can be deceiving. Not talking about the kiddie porn, meth is on a rampage, especially in small towns- it's scary.

Agents of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation High Technology Investigation Unit (HTIU), along with deputies from the Upson County Sheriff's Office (UCSO), on Wednesday executed a search warrant at 535 Meadow Drive, which resulted in the arrest of 44-year-old Dawn Deborah Brantley, who is now facing possession of child pornography and drug-related charges.

Authorities said Brantley, who was unemployed at the time of her arrest, is a registered nurse formerly employed as a substitute teacher in Macon elementary and middle schools.

GBI Public Affairs Director John Bankhead said Brantley's arrest followed an investigation during which child pornography movies were downloaded from her home computer.

He explained the process in which that file transfer took place by comparing it the method formerly utilized by Napster subscribers, who would share music files.

"The same thing is going on with child pornography. There are peer-to-peer groups that will allow you to go into their computer and download movies and images from their computer," Bankhead said. "That's what happened in this case. An undercover agent was able to go online and download five movie files from the suspect's (Brantley's) computer. That's what gave us probable cause for the search warrant."

Upon execution of the search warrant, agents conducted a preliminary review of Brantley's computer at the scene, which resulted in the location of 65 images of child pornography, in addition to the original five downloaded movie files, Brantley said.

That discovery allowed agents to secure an arrest warrant.

"They did seize the computer and they'll go through it forensically -- more thoroughly -- and find out how many images are on it," Bankhead said.

When asked if additional arrests have been made in this case, Bankhead said, "No, not yet. It's still an ongoing investigation. They are looking at possibly making additional arrests, but we don't know yet what the investigation may lead to."

Bankhead went on to explain that Brantley's arrest for possession of child pornography is atypical, but not unheard of.

"It's very unusual for a woman to be involved in child pornography. Women account for only five percent of the arrests the High Technology Investigation Unit makes on these types of charges," he said. "That's why investigators are working to see who else may be involved. However, it was her (Brantley's) computer. It was her ISP (Internet service provider). It was in her house and she did have knowledge of it, so she's been charged."

In addition to the single count of child pornography brought against Brantley by the GBI, she faces additional charges brought by the UCSO.

"During the search, deputies from the Upson County Sheriff's Office located methamphetamine and methamphetamine smoking devices," Brantley said.

This resulted in charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects.

Authorities say upon Brantley's arrest, three minor children present at the residence were placed in the custody of Upson County DFACS.
