SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla - A woman walking through the parking lot of the Cross County shopping plaza at Okeechobee Blvd and Military Trail discovered a child left in a hot car Friday.
Fire rescue spokesperson Don Delucia said she heard the screaming child in a black Ford Mustang. The windows were up and the engine was off.
She and another person pulled the sweaty, pale and shaking one year old child from the vehicle.
They went into the Fabulous Beauty Supply and asked if anyone left a child in a car. When no one answered they called 911.
By the time deputies arrived, they said 22 year old Chekeena Hall of Riviera Beach walked out of the beauty supply store.
According to the sheriff's office, when Hall was asked why she left the child in the hot car alone she said she did not know how she forgot the child.
Deputies arrested Hall for child neglect.
Fire rescue officials say the child was transported to St Mary's Medical Center and is expected to survive.
The National Weather Service in West Palm Beach reports the air temperature at noon was 91 degrees with a heat index of 101.
