One of the suspects -- the boyfriend of the child's mother -- told Channel 4 Action News' Marcie Cipriani that they didn't realize what they did was wrong at the time.
"No one did it on purpose," the man said. "The boy is going through the changes of life, like everyone does. How do you do that with your oldest kid? You always have mess-ups."
According to the criminal complaint, state police said the boy's mother provided her son with a sex toy, and his father bought him a Playboy and texted pornographic pictures to him, as did three other men.
Police said that the adults claimed they were teaching sex education to the boy, and that the incident escalated following an argument by the estranged couple.

The mother's boyfriend told Cipriani that he and the mother were "trying to prevent the 11-year-old from doing the same" as they did -- having kids when they were teenagers.
Trooper Stephen Limani said the mother faces the most serious charges.
“There’s a separate section when you give a child a device, a sexually explicit item. That’s a separate charge, that’s a felony charge,” said Limani.
The man said that he and the mother are in counseling because they want to "correct their parenting" and are "trying to be better" and hoping to bring the boy home soon.

• Andrew Earl Cramer, 29, of 106 Huntingdon Drive, Apt. 108, East Huntingdon;
• Robert A. Cramer, 42, of 535 Tukosh St., East Huntingdon; and
• Monty Ray Murphy Jr., 33, of 331 White Road, Normalville.
Police identified Rebecca Murphy, a mother of four, as Andrew Cramer's estranged wife. Murphy is dating Pickford.
