GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) - A woman was arrested Saturday on charges of animal cruelty after she allegedly failed to feed her pets over a four-day period.
Angela Roddey, 34, of 3811 Cameron Avenue, allegedly neglected and tortured animals through dehydration and starvation. Her animals included 5 dogs, 4 birds, 4 guinea pigs, two ferrets one chinchilla, one rabbit, one degu and one cat.
The Guilford County Animal Control Director confirmed they seized Roddey's animals due to poor living conditions.
Roddey said she was out of town when they took the animals. She was charged on Saturday.
"They had no food and water and the cages were filthy," said Marsha Williams with Guilford County Animal Control.
Williams also said they found a dead dog in the woman's backyard.
"To have a dead animal tied-up in your backyard and you don't even know it's back there. That's unacceptable," said Williams.
Roddey told FOX8 that the dog was tied-up in her back yard and she feels bad that it died.
"I'm really upset that one did pass while I was gone. I do feel like that was my fault, that she was out there while I wasn't here," said Roddey.
Roddey said other than the dog that died, she took good care of her 19 animals. She claims she always fed them and gave them water.
Roddey is asking for the animals to be returned to her because she is trying to start a business.
"I was in the process of getting a 501(c)(3) Animal Rescue. Now I can't do that," said Roddey.
The animals will stay at the Guilford County Animal Shelter "indefinitely," according to officials.
Police said she has been charged with 19 felonies. She was placed in jail under $10,000 bond. Her first court date is October 15.
