Police in Concord said a man is being charged with assaulting his 9-month-old daughter.
Twenty-four-year-old Jason Teixeira was arrested Sunday morning in Portsmouth, N.H. His daughter was with him.
Police said they arrested Teixeira after getting a call from the child's grandmother saying that she may be in some sort of trouble.
Police said the girl was treated at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and her injuries weren't life-threatening. Police said the child had contusions on her abdomen and her face that were consistent with being squeezed.
Investigators said Teixeira's girlfriend told police that several days ago, she heard the baby crying off and on. When she went to investigate, she said, she saw Teixeira holding his hand over the child's mouth, police said.
A doctor at Portsmouth Region Hospital who examined the child described circular bruises that were consistent with a finger pattern on the baby's head and abdomen, police said.
Teixeira was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a minor.
Teixeira is being held at the Merrimack County Jail on $125,000 bail.
