Douglas Trofatter left baby in car to fight with another man, car rolls away

BRANFORD, Conn. -- Police in Branford arrested a man who they said left a baby in a car to fight with another man.

Branford police arrested Douglas Trofatter, 22, of Branford, around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Trofatter confronted and became involved in a fight with another man over a domestic dispute. Police said Trofatter jumped out of a vehicle in a parking lot on West Main Street that contained his 8-month-old child. However, police said Trofatter forgot to set the parking brake inside the vehicle and it began to roll away.

Police said the vehicle traveled 50 feet before it hit another vehicle and came to a stop.

Police arrested Trofatter and charged him with risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace. Trofatter was being held on $5,000 bond.

Ugh, but so thankful little baby is A-okay.

My car once 'ran away' from me too at a gas station. It started heading backwards towards the pump and I was about to have a heart attack right then and there. My poor gma looked like she had a stroke, grasping for air and yelling at me to stop the damn thing. Thank God the pumps have those poles to protect big things, like cars, from smashing into them.

I can never imagine if I thought I had a baby in that car. =O
