Anne Rice quits Chrisitanity. What took so long?

Legendary author Anne Rice has announced that she’s quitting Christianity.

The “Interview with a Vampire” author, who wrote a book about her spirituality titled "Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession" in 2008, said Wednesday that she refuses to be “anti-gay,” “anti-feminist," “anti-science” and “anti-Democrat.”

Rice wrote, “For those who care, and I understand if you don't: Today I quit being a Christian ... It's simply impossible for me to ‘belong’ to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I've tried. I've failed. I'm an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.”

Rice then added another post explaining her decision on Thursday:

“My faith in Christ is central to my life. My conversion from a pessimistic atheist lost in a world I didn't understand, to an optimistic believer in a universe created and sustained by a loving God is crucial to me," Rice wrote. "But following Christ does not mean following His followers. Christ is infinitely more important than Christianity and always will be, no matter what Christianity is, has been or might become.”

Gotta say, I don't give a rat's ass. BUT... I'm interested in opinions.
Frankly, she went looney anyway. I blame the church.

Nah. She still loves Christ, but not his followers.
    BWAHAHA.

This is exactly how I feel. I can't stand Bible thompers and fanatics.

I love her novels. My favorite is The Blood Canticle....I am with you Broken, I am so fucking tired of Twilight and the anemic vampires

Oh? You've never heard of 'those'? They're the ones that want to have a 'personal relationship with God' but do not want to belong to a 'religious institution'.

Instead of saying they have cancer, they just say they have a common cold.

I do too, been sneezing my fool head off all day.

She's not renouncing her faith, just the company she keeps. Having seen some fanatics in my time, can't say I blame her.
What's that saying? "Lord protect me from your followers"

The people she was affiliated with probably pushed her extra hard to conform to what they thought was 'right' due to her fame.

    Run Anne! Run!

And kill off an Edward in your next book pls.

Edit: Whoa Am, thanks for providing the Facebook link.
"1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." (1 Corinthians. St. Paul).
Her quoting that means she's calling out some Hyp-O-Crites.
At least that's the way I read it. Wonder what church scared her off?

There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilization -- these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit ~ C. S. Lewis

I used to really love Anne until she went bat shit crazy. I defended her on a review on Amazon when she was only half crazy and she sent me a personal email thanking me so she's a really cool person and an unusual famous person. Unfortunately, Anne doesn't seem to understand the difference between Catholicism and Christianity... there are Christian sects that hold the same values she does.

Honestly, I don't understand people who find comfort in Christianity more than in Atheism. If a "loving God" is supposed to have created this screwed up world (and it's currently pretty screwed up)... how is that comforting? As an Atheist, I see that we create the world we live in and we can change it by our own actions, I'm not waiting for a "Daddy" to clean up after me. As a Christian, what would be the point? Why would I try to do better when the world is how God wants it and he's the one in control so what the hell can I do to change anything???
I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking.

Edit: I typed up a whole big rebuttal for you Saffron but decided it really is useless. I mean, you can't argue religion, much less on a message board.
So I send you all due respect.

    Faith is a tricky thing.

Anne Rice quits Chrisitanity. What took so long?

    When will she quit overeating?
Yet know, my master, God omnipotent,
Is mustering in his clouds on our behalf
Armies of pestilence; and they shall strike
Your children yet unborn and unbegot,
That lift your vassal hands against my head
And threat the glory of my precious crown.
