One of Anne Rule's books was a wife who was a MD was poisoning her husband with ground up castor beans which is an oramental plant that is very commonly planted. When they are ground up and added to food they can be very deadly and produce gastro distress and are easy to obtain and plant.

The poison derived from castor beans is ricin, one of the most deadly toxins in the world.

I once put laxative in my grandmother's coffee, but I do not believe she took any notice of it.
Yet know, my master, God omnipotent,
Is mustering in his clouds on our behalf
Armies of pestilence; and they shall strike
Your children yet unborn and unbegot,
That lift your vassal hands against my head
And threat the glory of my precious crown.
