Man charged A four year old girl is fighting for her life after the Johnston County Sheriff's Office says she was tortured by her mother's boyfriend.

The little girl is currently in critical condition at UNC Hospitals. As for the suspect, 21-year-old, Jonathan Richardson, has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse.

Authorities say Richardson was living in an outbuilding on his grandparents' property with his girlfriend and her four year old daughter.

Last week, the girlfriend was deployed to reserve training in New Mexico. While she was gone, authorities say Richardson beat and sexually assaulted the little girl.

Sheriff Steve Bizzell tells NBC-17 News, this is the worst case of abuse and torture he has ever seen.

Bizzell said the child has head trauma along with abrasions and lacerations to most of her body. The child also had a number of bite marks, as well.

It's not the first time Richardson has been in trouble with authorities. Court records show he served time for an assault back in 2007.

Tonight, Richardson faces felony child abuse charges. He is being held in the Johnston County Jail under a one million dollar bond.

I hate to rag on a military mom, but going to live in a barn and then leaving your child there while you deploy?! That's a highly questionable move. (At least it wasn't for a long overseas deployment.)

This male parasite has some gall, raping and torturing that poor child right in his grandparents' back yard. Not to mention his criminal lack of foresight in recognizing the jig would be up when his girlfriend got home. I just can't fathom that some guys (in this case) can't seem to see past the end of their own scummy noses (or pubes, as the case may be). No concept of the future. No concern for "what will the neighbors say". No regard for other people's feelings, pain, and suffering.

Living in the barn is not all that unusual. Many farm outbuildings around here are converted to living quarters. While I don't personally know any people that live in barns, I do know of several barns that have been converted and rented out. I think in this case the media is just sensationalizing it for effect.

The mother left the girl in Richardson's care last Tuesday so she could go to Army Reserves training in New Mexico. Bizzell said the mother was devastated to hear about the incident and was on her way back to Johnston County.

Investigators believe the assault took place at a barn apartment Richardson had been living in. It is located behind his grandparent's home along Old Sanders Road in Smithfield. Bizzell said Richardson's grandparents had nothing to do with the case and are good, respected people in the community.

Richardson was in the Johnston County jail under a $1 million bond Friday night.

In 2008, Richardson was found guilty of assault on a female, according to court records. He was ordered to enter an abuser treatment program and attend a domestic violence program in Johnston County.

Jeeze. I'm sorry but I feel bad for mom. She should have checked out her boyfriend, but she probably felt a little more comfotable with his parents right these. I'm a big advocate of check the uy out first...But I can say - I checked out my ex. They have his age wrong and there's not one single record of him being arrested. He's been arrested at least 20 times, so sometimes you can't rely on the internet.

Four-year-old torture victim dies
JOHNSTON COUNTY (WTVD) -- The 4-year-old Johnston County girl tortured by her mother's boyfriend died Monday evening.

Teghan Alyssa Skiba was hospitalized on Friday after being severely beaten and tortured by 21-year-old Jonathan Douglas Richardson.

Deputies say Richardson took the 4-year-old to the Johnston Medical Center claiming she fell out of bed. But doctors called authorities when they discovered human bite marks, bruises, cuts, severe head trauma and signs of possible sexual abuse.

Skiba was later air-lifted from Johnston Medical Center ER to UNC Chapel Hill Hospital for further treatment, but died of her injuries on Monday around 6:30 p.m.

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell told ABC11 earlier on Monday that her condition was not improving and she remained in critical condition.

Bizzell said the abuse likely happened over several days and called it one of the worst cases of abuse his investigators have ever seen.

"The reality is probably 10 times worse than anyone could possibly imagine," he said Monday.

Richardson was supposed to be caring for the child while his girlfriend, Skiba's mother, was in New Mexico for Army Reserve training.

On Friday, Helen Reyes returned from training in New Mexico to be at her daughter's side in the hospital.

But Bizzell said he feels the girl's mother has some responsibility for what happened because she knew the conditions she was leaving her child in.

Bizzell said the couple was living with the child in an air conditioned barn behind the home of Richardson's grandparents on the outskirts of Smithfield near Brogden. There was no running water, no bathroom, and just a single air mattress on the floor to sleep on.

Investigators have not charged Richardson's grandparents with any crime, but Bizzell said the investigation was ongoing and detectives were meeting with the district attorney. He said it's likely more charges will be filed.

Richardson is now charged with first degree murder and is being held without bond in Johnston County Jail.

Earlier on Monday, Richardson faced a judge in Smithfield first the first time. He was originally charged with felony child abuse with severe bodily injury and held in jail under a $1 million bond.

I am shocked and appalled that the Grandparents of Richardson did not see about Teghan Alyssa, did they know that she had been left there? I just cannot wrap my mind around this, the home looks nice enough, well kept on the outside, were they at home during this time? My brain is boggled and I am distraught to think that there were other people (besides Mom) that could've maybe saved her from torture and death! Pieces of duct tape??? Defecated on the bed?? Seems she may have been dying from the sexual abuse, before he beat her!! Four years old!!

I read this horrific case on the FP, cannot even begin to fathom the sweet child's horror those last two days.

Sounds like this really was a barn. Baby girl had no where to go to the bathroom...she may have been trying to hold it as the POS likely didn't let her just run off to the house up front to go. But I don't doubt that she was likely sexually abused prior to this incident. Makes me sick, I bet he volunteered to watch her too, the putrid fuck.

I think its incredibly sad that the grandparents having known he was living in the barn with this woman and child didn't insist the child sleep in the home. I don't know how long the mother knew this fucker but I have to wonder how could she leave her baby girl with this guy and in that barn, ffs? I mean I just couldn't do it. Her child probably didn't know this asshole all that well and to insure her well being with him for 2 weeks, geebus, and in a barn with no sanitary condition and not a decent place for her child to sleep. IMO, she is absolutely guilty for shity parenting, and poor judgment that put Teghan directly in danger. It really pisses me off to no end. Mothers, treasure your children they are NOT replaceable unlike a boyfriend.

Helen Reyes was arrested around 11:00 Thursday morning.According to new search warrants, the 4-year-old girl was a victim of "forced consumption of alcohol". The warrants state that she suffered severe physical beatings and assault by biting between July 5 and July 16. The warrant says Reyes had "firsthand knowledge" of this kind of abuse before July 5.

Deputies say Reyes' boyfriend - 21-year-old Jonathan Douglas Richardson - took the girl to the Johnston Medical Center July 16 claiming she fell out of bed. But doctors called authorities when they discovered human bite marks, bruises, cuts, severe head trauma and evidence of extreme sexual abuse.

Richardson is now charged with first degree murder and is being held without bond in Johnston County Jail.

I reread this whole thread again... Okay, I'm not a mother, but a lot of people are somewhat intuitive (me, I'm very intuitive) and know when something is not right with someone. Is the mother so stuck on herself that she couldn't see the devil of a man she was seeing? But, I think she really didn't care. I think she just wanted a man and is evil herself. I bet you that she didn't want her daughter. I bet she just wanted to be with her boyfriend and get done with the military. I bet that she herself helped beat her daughter and wanted her daughter gone. (this is what I'm seeing) If this is the fucking case, then why didn't she give her daughter up for adoption or give her to her parents? Which brings me to her parents: why in the fucking hell would they let their granddaughter stay in a apartment in a barn with no running water or a bathroom and let her share a bed with this fucking guy? Why didn't they have the granddaughter stay with them in the house? And why didn't they notice her injuries or change in behavior? Did they not see her? Did they not check on her? Bizzell doesn't plan to charge the Creeches or anyone else with crimes, although his detectives are still investigating.

The Creeches are Richardson's grandparents, the ones whose house the barn was located behind.

On Friday, prosecutors said that Reyes' family-care plan on file with the Army Reserves names her mother, Maria, as the sole caretaker for Teghan when the girl's mother is away for training.

So she didn't carry through on her own plan for Teghan's care.

If convicted, Reyes could face up to 30 years in prison.

The paternal grandparents of a North Carolina girl who authorities say died after severe abuse say they had considered seeking custody of the 4-year-old but said state law made it very difficult. . . .

So she leaves and doesn't place Teghan with her grandparents as SHE planned??!! why? it's like she wanted her daughter to suffer and die by this fuckers hands. She knew the asswipe was beating her, so the way I see it she did this knowingly and willingly therefore, IMO, she deserves the same punishment as baby killer.

The grandparents wanted custody of Teghan and express a deep remorse for her loss. One question I have is, why did they never report abuse/neglect to CSP? Not one report was made. That might have helped their case in getting custody of Teghan.
