North Las Vegas,NV (KTNV) -- A statue of the Virgin Mary stands watch over a home where a teenage girl gave birth to a baby she never knew she was carrying.
"It shocked me once I found out. Once I saw the baby's head," says the teen who asked to be identified only as 'Joy'. "I just started feeling pressure. She just started coming out without even me pushing."
Joy, 16 years-old, says she was doing back flips in the backyard swimming pool until the night she gave birth.
"I never felt nothing in my stomach," she says.
It was in the dark of night on June 26, when she gave birth in her bedroom.
After Joy cleaned the blood off themselves in the bathroom, she says the baby wasn't breathing.
"I gave her CPR for like 5-10 minutes. Infant CPR. She came back for like 2 minutes at least and after that she was gone," says Joy.
Feeling lightheaded from the blood loss, Joy says she fell asleep for several hours next to her baby's lifeless body.
When she woke up, Joy put her baby in the car and headed to her boyfriend's house for several hours. She then went to pick her mom up from work.
For more than 12 hours, she never called 911.
"I didn't know what to do. I'm the type of person that gets really scared and this time I got scared," says Joy.
Despite her boyfriend's pleas to go to the hospital, Joy just couldn't bring herself to admit that her baby was gone.
"He kept telling me to call, call the ambulance. But I didn't want to," says Joy. "Not yet. I didn't want them to take her away from me. I just wanted to be with her."
By the time the baby was taken to the hospital, there was nothing doctors could do to bring the baby girl back to life.
North Las Vegas Police are currently waiting for a final coroner's report before they determine any possible charges.
Joy understands why police are investigating but says she's innocent. Innocent and remorseful.
