Teen Didn't Know She Was Preggo- Baby Dead

North Las Vegas,NV (KTNV) -- A statue of the Virgin Mary stands watch over a home where a teenage girl gave birth to a baby she never knew she was carrying.

"It shocked me once I found out. Once I saw the baby's head," says the teen who asked to be identified only as 'Joy'. "I just started feeling pressure. She just started coming out without even me pushing."

Joy, 16 years-old, says she was doing back flips in the backyard swimming pool until the night she gave birth.

"I never felt nothing in my stomach," she says.

It was in the dark of night on June 26, when she gave birth in her bedroom.

After Joy cleaned the blood off themselves in the bathroom, she says the baby wasn't breathing.

"I gave her CPR for like 5-10 minutes. Infant CPR. She came back for like 2 minutes at least and after that she was gone," says Joy.

Feeling lightheaded from the blood loss, Joy says she fell asleep for several hours next to her baby's lifeless body.

When she woke up, Joy put her baby in the car and headed to her boyfriend's house for several hours. She then went to pick her mom up from work.

For more than 12 hours, she never called 911.

"I didn't know what to do. I'm the type of person that gets really scared and this time I got scared," says Joy.

Despite her boyfriend's pleas to go to the hospital, Joy just couldn't bring herself to admit that her baby was gone.

"He kept telling me to call, call the ambulance. But I didn't want to," says Joy. "Not yet. I didn't want them to take her away from me. I just wanted to be with her."

By the time the baby was taken to the hospital, there was nothing doctors could do to bring the baby girl back to life.

North Las Vegas Police are currently waiting for a final coroner's report before they determine any possible charges.

Joy understands why police are investigating but says she's innocent. Innocent and remorseful.

I've never been preggo, but how can you not know??? I think she knew. What do you think?

I have always known when I was pregnant before the test would confirm. But then there are reports of women actually going through the 9 months of pregnancy never knowing that they are in this condition. Again, I have NEVER not known. This story just seems too fishy for me. I will wait for more details

With my first pregnancy, I didn't know I was pregnant for about 3 months or so and even when I realized that I might be pregnant, I was in such denial that I didn't accept it until I was 7 months pregnant. I didn't show until I was about 8 months pregnant either and even then it was a very minor baby bump. I was also in extremely good shape (since some people say only fat girls could really get away with that). I lived at home with my parents who didn't know until I was 7.5 months along and I told them and I lived in a small town where everyone knows everyone's business, and people didn't find out I was until I had my baby.

I know it's hard for people who haven't been through it to understand, but I know it can happen. Some women even menstruate though their entire pregnancies, though I didn't. That is the ONLY thing that made me think I might be preggo after 3 or 4 months.

I don't know what to think of this girl though. A big part of me wants to call bullshit on her because at some point, you just know there is something wrong, but mostly because she is coming off as so attached to a baby that she didn't know she was carrying. I think I doubt her not wanting to call 911 or go to the hospital for a baby that suddenly sprung from her loins. That's more the behaviour of someone who knew ahead of time to me. I think, especially for a teenager, a lot of the bonding comes from carrying the baby. If she had no idea until it suddenly popped out, the bonding just wouldn't be the same. I just have a hard time with that part.

My 11 year old daughter has been playing at the park nearly everyday for 2 weeks with a friend. She has a tan that would make teenage girls envious. Her opinion of it? "Once you go black, you never go back." OMG! REALLY!?!?!?

Ever see that show I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant? I think it's TLC.
Those women are generally large women and have sporadic menstrual cycles any.
Could possibly be the case here.
But to not go to a hospital for 12 fucking hours? Dumbshit!

    .....
Exactly. But for me, I was 125lbs for most of my pregnancy. I only gained 10lbs by the time she was born. I had really good stomache muscles and I think that's what allowed me to be able to hide the baby bump. Once she was born, I lost that 10 pounds. It didn't work out this way for my next 4 pregnancies but I was also relaxed for them. During all of my pregnancies, I never experienced morning sickness or any of the other symptoms most women get.

You know, I really am a weird person. Only you people get to know how truly weird I am. You should all feel privileged for that.

I have a friend that was pregnant with twins and didn't know until she went into labor. The first baby was stillborn but the second survived and is now 5 yrs old. She was a "bigger" girl but I know lots of incidents where smaller size women have babies and don't know they're pregnant. Some women carry the baby more in their back so they don't have much of a tummy. It's odd I agree.... as for this girl, I don't know. It's hard to imagine driving around with a dead baby for 12 hrs under any circumstance. Just odd.

Actually, I find it easier to believe this of an individual in incredibly good shape than an overweight woman. One of my best friends was a kickboxer in fantastic shape who was 5.5 months pregnant before she knew (she was notified by her doctor - she had gone in because she thought she might be reacting badly to birth control). She didn't start showing until her 7th or 8th month, either.

Athletic women often suffer from irregular menstral cycles, and their strong ab muscles limit the appearance of pregnancy.

Being pregnant myself, I can't imagine how someone could not know. But, logically, if the stars aligned just right and you had a fit woman with a less active fetus (or an overweight woman with a less active fetus), I guess it could happen.

But I think denial probably plays a big part in a lot of these situations. People can convince themselves of a lot... even believing they're not pregnant when they are.

After 4 live births, I can't think of how someone couldn't know. With my first I didn't know for like 4 months and nothing even tipped me off I was pregnant (my mom knew before I did).

That's exactly what it was for me I think. I was a cyclist. I was actually dreaming of participating in "Le Tour de France" and was training constantly. Then when I had my daughter, it was completely back labour, probably because I carried her more towards the back.

My cousin was in her mid 40s and didn't know she was pregnant. In fact, she was in the hospital for several DAYS before the HOSPITAL realized that she was experiencing preclampsia. She had no clue and was supposedly barren due to uninformed radiation exposure at her job.

I'm still not sure how there are teenagers this day and age who don't realize that sexual intercourse could easily = pregnancy.
The article isn't clear on her having continuous menstrual cycles or the lack of morning sickness.

What it is clear about is the fact that she knew when she saw a babies head coming out and even 'did infant CPR' yet fell asleep next to the baby and waited hours, only to drive the corpse to her boyfriend's house.

This is sad on so SO many levels.
    What a waste.

Oh yeah....how does she know how to do infant CPR but not call 911 or go in to emerg? The article also mentioned that the baby just started coming out without her pushing, um, really?

She knew...but she didn't want her Mom to know I bet. Makes me sick to think she was driving around on the same streets I do with a dead infant in her car. And her BF should have just called 911 instead of trying to convince her to take the dead baby to the hospital...seeing as it was hours after the birth....and way too late to save her.

Yup, he was almost full term. My cousin was the one in the most danger. I believe he's got his college pre-paid for since the hospital neglected to do the required tests when a woman enters a hospital (they are supposed to test for pregnancy). I believe she was in the hospital with an off the chart blood pressure for almost a week when someone in radiology noticed a nearly full term baby when doing a ultrasound on her to try to figure out WTF was going on...

Boy, I don't know. I was in really great shape the first time I was pregnant...I was a competing equestrian and I didn't show until I was about 8 months (and continued horse back riding until I couldn't comfortably get off a horse anymore), still had periods and I knew I was pregnant at 4 weeks although a pregnancy test didn't show positive until almost 10 weeks. I just don't get people not knowing - I can't imagine being so out of touch with your own body that you wouldn't get that the baby moving wasn't gas after a certain point. I mean, when my daughter was really moving, it would knock me off balance. I guess maybe if you had a really quiet baby, were in severe denial and had no body awareness, I might buy it, but how often do all 3 of those things happen at the same time? You would think it was one in 4 teenage pregnancies by the way they tell it.

I don't guess I understand how you couldn't tell something was happening to your body even if you're not sure what it is. My first clue was always the feeling like the little bugger had his toes dug into my rib cage pushing as if to separate my ribs from my back and this was even before he was supposed to have toes. And the bigger he got the more it hurt.

Also I never experienced any morning sickness either!!

i don't think the baby was dead. i think she is using the infant cpr thing to explain how the baby had taken a breath when they do the autopsy.

I can kind of believe this. She might have known infant CPR because of babysitting -- if she took any red cross babysitting classes, etc. I've heard of primate mothers who grieve over the deaths of their babies and won't relinquish the corpse for days. I could see this, I guess. However, as a reasoning human, you'd think that, if there was a chance the paramedics or hospital could revive her baby, she'd be persuaded to take her or call for help. I guess she knew it was too late.

There aint no God damned way I could hide a pregnancy or not know. I turn into a fucking ball.... a BIG HUGE FAT ROLL'E PULL'E (or however you spell it). My ass widens, the hips get thick, the belly...... huge! It aint pretty folks. I could never hide a pregnancy if I wanted to....
With hope, my starting weight was 104 pounds.... I gained almost 40 f'ing pounds. I looked like I had broken into a doughnut shop and feasted for months. Let me add.... I was in great shape prior to pregnancy with Hope. I worked out every day. Now, since I have hope, I don't make the time. I rather play in the sand, or in the pool with her, than go roller blading, step aerobics or lift weights. Maybe someday I'll get back into awesome shape again, but for now.... I love my Hope and she gets my focus.
