NEW HAVEN - New Haven police have issued an amber alert are searching for a white 1999 Hyundai Sonata, Connecticut license plate 343 XWX, after a woman said that her car was stolen with her 1-year-old child in the backseat from a gas station on Forbes Avenue in New Haven.

Police said that Izaial Gonzales was taken from a gas station at 401 Forbes Avenue while their mother was paying for gas around 6:30 a.m.

Police said the woman was dragged as she attempted to stop the vehicle from being stolen.

The child is described as a Hispanic male, 28 pounds, black hair, wearing a gray short sleeve shirt, navy blue pants, and red, white and blue flip flops.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5'7", about 35 years old, clean shaven, medium build with short black hair. He was wearing a light blue polo shirt, green army fatigue shorts, and white shorts.

Police said the car is missing a windshield wiper.

A 1-year-old baby boy was found safe today about an hour after the car he was in was carjacked from in front of a Forbes Avenue gas station and the baby’s pregnant mother was dragged trying to stop the car.

The baby’s mother, Nayla Mateo, 28 of Hamden, was taken to the Hospital of St. Raphael for treatment of injuries she received when she fought with the suspect and then was dragged for some distance trying to stop the car.

Family members said the baby was to be brought to the mother at the hospital.

Police were searching the area for the suspect and planned to use police tracking dogs.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet '7 inches tall, about 35 years old, clean shaven, medium build with short black hair. He was wearing a light blue polo shirt, green army fatigue shorts, and white shorts

One grave concern was that the baby would be left alone in the car on what was expected to be a dangerously hot day, the brother said.

The woman;s 1999 Hyundai Sonata was found less than 1 mile from where carjacking took place.

Glad this was over before it... well, before it started, I guess.
Sad mommy was hurt, but that's a REAL mom, willing to be dug by a car to save her baby. I hope her fetus is okay.

I was up before 7 and it was on the news that it had just happened, then it took until about 9 for the Amber Alert to go over the T.V. they attempted it several times but it came out really bad, hardly audible and kept cutting off.

Hope they work on that.

i sleep with the TV on and when i woke up the Amber Alert was displayed on the bottom half of the screen. it's kinda like storm warnings except there's no alarm sound. it obscures much of the screen, forcing you to look at it and press "exit" on the ATT remote if you wanna watch TV.
