It's all good that you are lookin out for your friend. I feel for her other kids. They are innocent in it all. They didn't encourage their parents to have sex without protection and bring a whole bunch of children into an already difficult world to ultimately fend for themselves. The example they have doesn't seem bright and that blows for any child. And who are you to speak for them? Maybe they loved their baby sister? Maybe they are angry at their mother for killing her? Maybe they feel just as betrayed by her, as every mother on the face of this earth does? As a mother, I feel it is my moral and emotional obligation to care for my child no matter what. And since she chose to be a mother, a multitude of times over, I feel that the same should be expected of her! God willing social services will do right by them and find them real homes with loving parental units who can teach them that the value of life does not end in the fire pit. Tamelia has been violent since she was a teenager. At the age of 16 she was charged with second-degree robbery. She also has 4 charges of assault on her record. In 2001, she was charged with negligent abandonment of a dependent person after she left her kids in an apartment alone. Her then 5 year old son found a lighter and set the apartment on fire severely burning her then 2 year old daughter.

Neighbors reported Tamelia was mean to her children and could be heard screaming profanities at them all the time. One neighbor feared what she was capable of behind closed doors. Tamelia was in the bedroom with Cecilia one evening when she would not quit crying. She often accused the toddler of being a cry baby.

Tamelia picked little Cecilia up by her arms and shook her, after shaking her she threw her and slammed her head into headboard. Tamelia then picked her baby back up and threw her into the closet and let her cry herself to death. 20 month old Cecilia died alone in a dark closet. Her siblings could hear her crying.

One of the kids said they saw Cecilia “sleeping” in bed but when they came home from school she was no longer there and all of her personal belongings were gone.

Tamelia told Mary that the baby fell and hit her head and she wanted to bring her to Drummond to live with her. Mary said Tamelia told her at one point “I hits her and I don’t why”.

Tamelia did not like Cecilia and did not want her around. She did not hide her feelings about Cecilia from anyone. She once told a friend, Latakka B. “I don’t like the way that bitch looks at me”. Tamelia referred to Cecilia as a little bitch most of the time. She has also told people she never bonded with Tamelia.

During a Memorial Day cookout at Jennifer W.’s home Cecilia was seen by Ron W., Kaleigh H. and Sandy F. with 2 black eyes and a swollen head. Ron said Tamelia told people to not talk to her because she would just cry. Tamelia was seen yelling and cursing at CC at the cookout. He picked the baby up to feed her and she acted as if she had not eaten in days.

Bonita, Cecilia’s babysitter said she did notice the cut on her head but it was no more than a normal scrape and nothing serious like what is being speculated. She also maintains that the last time she watched the children was on May 22nd and Cecilia was not there. Tamelia told her that her oldest son was keeping her at home that day.

Another friend, Tracy said she also saw Cecilia after she hit her head and also says it was no different than a normal childhood injury. She saw a cut above her right eye and she was fine.

In the beginning of June Rokeita D. and Shannon D. went over to the Harris household to pick up a set of bunk beds and said there was a bad smell coming from the basement where there were sealed bags that were full. They also said Tamelia was not homes but the kids were. This was around the same time Tamelia was asking people if she could borrow a fire pit and was telling people there were maggots in the trash.

Linda Harris, Tamelia’s mother came to help with the new baby for over a week and wanted to have a bbq in the fire pit. Tamelia insisted that the fire pit could not be used to cook food on.

Police took Tamelia’s cell phone into custody as evidence. On it they found a message that read “they said u told jan u did sumthin real bad n kiki said wen she went up there it smelled really bad n u wouldn’t let her clean tha basement or take the garbage out n she want to no wat u burned cuz it wasent garbage cuz its still in tha basement” (sic).

MANCHESTER, Iowa - A Dubuque woman charged in the death of her toddler daughter has pleaded guilty to six charges, including child endangerment resulting in death and desecration of a corpse.

Tamelia Harris pleaded guilty on Monday at the Delaware County Courthouse in Manchester. She was sentenced to 78 years in prison.

Harris had been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 20-month-old daughter, Cecelia. Harris had been jailed since July 2010 when police began looking for the child. Police later found the remains of a small child in Harris' backyard.

Harris waived her right for a 15 day delay before sentencing. She told the judge she wanted to be sentenced at the pre-trial hearing Monday.

After more than a year of her remains being in state custody, Cecelia Harris was laid to rest on Saturday.

A calm wind broke the silence at Mount Olivet Cemetery just outside of Dubuque Saturday morning. Then a small coffin with the remains of Cece Harris was carried by family members to her final resting place in the cemetery.

"It's been a tragic story all the way along,” said Pastor Loren Hirschy, “it's been a long time since the events began to take place."

Thanks to the dedication of the police and others in the community, Cece finally received a proper funeral.

Her family's pastor read the memorial. Her aunt Angel and her brothers and sisters finally got to mourn together and celebrate her short life at her grave side.

They had a lot of support too. The entire funeral, cemetery plot, casket, everything was donated to help the grieving family, and from her brother's football teammates to complete strangers, a crowd of at least 50 community members came out Saturday morning to join in the grieving.
