A Jonesborough woman has been arrested for child abuse that left the 5-year-old victim with serious injuries, including severe damage to her nose and ear, Sheriff Ed Graybeal said Thursday in a news release.
Washington County deputies and U.S. Marshal Service agents arrested Tammy Tilson Elliott, 37, 3636 Cherokee Road, Jonesborough, on Wednesday, as she had fled the area on June 7, the sheriff said.
Elliott's two counts of aggravated child abuse stemmed from a report by the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services concerning possible abuse to a 5-year-old juvenile who was in Elliott’s custody.
The sheriff said the investigation found that the victim had received multiple injuries to the cartilage in her nose that left the her without any viable cartilage in her nose area. The plastic surgeon attending to the victim reported that it would take multiple surgeries to correct the injury, Graybeal said.
The child also had a razor cut on her right ear that had become severely infected and also needed professional medical treatment, Graybeal said.
Elliott was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on a $150,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance July 8.
