I don't think this photo is art or pornograhy.
As art the lighting is terible, the hairstyle is ridiculous, the makeup sucks, and the pose is horrible. It makes her look like a hunchbacked chipmunk who just climbed out of the swamp. Now if she were looking somewhere other than directly at the camera, her face didn't look so chubby, her back was straiter, and lit to acentuate the musclature in her back and shoulder then it might be art.
As porn it lacks the sugestive smile, twinkle in the eye, and touch of innocence that drive desire. The touch of innocence is optional since porn of an adult can be innocent or sultry, but you get the point. Maybe if her back was arched, her lips pouting, and the sugestive curve of the side of her breast visible it could be porn.
The Brook Shield "Pretty Baby" pictoral in Playboy was 1000 times better both from an art and porography aspect. I was 14 or 15 when saw them in Dad's Playboy so maybe the hormone level at the time colored the memory. This, I think, is just a bad photograph.
On reflection it does sort of evoke a feeling that this is an exploited plain child being pushed to exhaustion and forced to grow up to fast. Not at all complimentary. Maybe it is art.

Well that brings me back to my original question. We are shown models younger than 18 striking sexy poses all the time and this is just another example. Of course this is my opinion which is why I asked if I get turned on by this picture does that me as sick as these child pornographer fucktards?
If these girls were not sexy, they would not be models or have the ability to sell millions of magazines with a photo spread like Ms. Cyrus.
American media tells men that these girls are sexy but if you get an erection you are evil.

"When researchers presented men with three composites of female faces, the most popular turned out not to be a true average of real faces but instead a composite of composites, with digitized, deliberately exaggerated "desirable" (and often childlike) features--full lips, high cheekbones, small chin, widely spaced eyes....The upshot is that although men prefer biologically average women, they also can be seduced by unreal, hyperattractive beauty embodied most in childlike female traits."

All this attention wasted on a twat that can't sing or dance.

I think her parents were stupid to let her pose like this in the first place, being that she is an idol for a lot of tweens. It is not a very good picture in the first place.

I'm gonna have to agree with Morbid on this one. I saw the green bra shot awhile ago. She took the picture herself and then it accidentially (yeah, right) got out on the internet. It is way more suggestive than the Vanity Fair shot. Everyone is so upset because she is wearing a sheet, but honestly, I've seen her in less. And yes, My children would never dress like this, but I also wouldn't let them do alot of things Miley Cyrus does. In my opinion she dresses pretty skimpy on a regular basis.
And have you seen the photo were she is LAYING on her dad? It is from the same photo shoot. That one grossed me out way worse. It was vaguely incestuous.

Thats her dad? ewwww, now that one is creppy.. I had seen that but didnt realise that it was her dad, I just asumed it was a bf that looked like shit.
Honestly, its not a big deal, you can find racier stuff on other 15yos Myspacess, Heck her personal pics like that bra thing are racier IMHO.
I doubt this would be making such a rucuss if she wasnt a Disney cash cow. just like that other girl from Highshcool musical whose naked pics got leaked about a year back and was forced to make like a million apologies on top of her humilliation.

I agree dop that the myspaces of 15 yo are just as bad. My son is 14 and I look at some of the pictures his friends have on there, and I am like wow! if I had a daughter she would not post pictures like that. Unfortunately, it seems that kids are growing up much faster these days, and regardless of what their parents say, they are going to dress how they want.
I saw the pictures and didn't think that there was anything wrong with them. It is true, she wears stuff that makes her look "slutty" and Disney doesn't have a problem with that. I also don't agree that the picture with her dad is "incestuous". I saw that picture and didn't think that at all.
I understand that she is a role model for tweens, but let's look at the big picture here. We teach our children what is right and wrong. My best friend has two daughters 11 & 13. They adore Mylie...but they also know that they shouldn't dress like her. If we tell our kids about the ramifications of dressing like that, then we are doing what a good parent should do.
Morbid is right. Sick people are going to look at kids in the pedophile/porno way regardless of what they wear if they are turned on by that.
Stepping down off my soap box now. :D Just giving my honest opinion.

Ahhh I see we are talking about two diferent pictures, Thank goodness cause the one I was remembering looked like incestland in my mind..
Now I that I see the pic we were talking about it doesnt really seem incestuous to me, It just looks shity.
Now as far as the other pic, that is a lot racier than the shoulder pretentious one from vouge.
I know those were ment to be private but what the hell, shes doing a far bether job at sexualising herselve than the magazine.
I had originaly seen that one at WWTDD along with the bra pic and some rather trying to be sexy pose in a bikini, one thing is for sure the girl is not bashful.

I think the bra shot looks like she is asking to get laid.
The sheet shot looks like she just got laid.
Neither would make me happy if I were her mother. But whatever. It's all marketing. The fact that we are even talking about it is making them soooo happy right now.
There are actually pages dedicated to answering the question of whether she is virgin or not. The fact that she says she is waiting for marriage and supposedly has a purity ring almost guarantees that she has already had multiple partners as far as I'm concerned.
This is Britney Spears all over again. Don't feed it!

Art? Not really, though that is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Pornography? She isn't even naked, so I'm going with no yet again.
As others have already said, this is nothing out of the ordinary. Girls her age wear more revealing clothing, take more suggestive photos, and generally act likes whore. She herself has taken more explict pictures, some of which Morbid didn't post:

Take a look at the second picture on the above like. Apparently it was leaked from her Myspace page. So why get all up in arms about this milder, more tasteful picture?

It's not like she's shitting in a cup and having another girl eat it. I don't understand what all the hub-bub is about. Drew Barrymore was getting eaten out on camera by Tom Skerritt at the same age and she was much more attractive. (& really, isn't that what matters most?)

You know what I don't get...
... who the fuck names their kid "Miley"? Seriously, thats the dumbest name I've ever heard.

Her real name is Destiny Hope.

If we're going to talk bad celeb. baby names..... Shannyn Sossamon has a kid named Audio Science.
Sadly... I'm not making that up.

I'm gonna echo what some folks have already said, but here's my humble opinion.
I think the Vanity Fair shot could be considered art by some, porn by others. I think it's a fucking ugly picture of a product of the new generation, which is spin 'em, sell 'em, make money off of 'em and then sit back 10 years from now when she's just another cracked out used to be famous skank whore, going "I just don't know what happened to her."
My kid adores Hannah Montana and like HP, I laugh myself sometimes. There is usually a moral to each episode. Miley may be a "role model" to some tweens, but it's up to the parents to ultimately guide the way. I'm not the world's greatest mother by any stretch, but I am proud of the fact that my kid can watch H.M. and say "Oh my gosh, I would never wear that in public!", while still wishing she could sing and dance like her.
Everything in the media, hell the whole fucking world, offends somebody these days, so I see how these kids can do what they want, then immediately have to start apologizing bcs you know somebody's gonna be pissed and bitch to Disney. According to reports, she wasn't actually naked under the sheet, just had the clothing pulled away to make it look like she was. Even if she was, or even for the bra picture or the laying on her boyfriend picture..who cares? I can think of all the shit I was doing at 15 that my parents would be horrified even today to know I was doing; yeah I'm not famous so I know there's a difference, but she's still 15. She's gonna push boundaries like any 15 year old - what she does may be a little more dramatic though bcs instead of having to get mommy & daddy's attention, she's gotta get the whole world's attention.
Last thing..thinking about backlash and apologizies and people banning H.M. from their houses and whatnot..whatever. It's a fucking picture. Miley Cyrus (major Disney star) = appearing to be naked in somewhat provocative picture vs. Jamie Lynn Spears (major Nickelodeon star) = knocked up at 16. No contest for me. I'd rather my daughter ask why Miley took a picture like that instead of why some kid still in school got pregnant.

One explanation I heard for a purity ring is that she is "marrying" daddy and will remain faithful to him until she gets married. Creepy, yes? I looked up Purity Balls and it just adds to the creepiness:
In my twisted mind, I could see some perverted daddy making use of this ceremony to take advantage of his daughter. But that would be another thread. ;)Her Heart Belongs to Daddy
And with 'Purity Balls,' so does her vagina
She's all dolled up in tiara and ball gown, sitting on her man's lap, arms around his neck, kissing his cheek. He's grinning from ear to ear and trying to look comfortable in a rented tux.
He's placed a ring on her finger, they've exchanged vows before God and for dessert they'll chow down on wedding cake.
The "ick" factor? Tuxman and Bride Baby are Daddy and his daughter, who could be any age from a barely school-ready 7 to a college graduate.
Daddy and his "date" are taking part in a "Purity Ball." That's where he pledges to guard his daughter's virginity until the day comes when he can turn her over to a legal husband. Dutiful daughter, in turn, promises to remain pure until that fateful day.
When I saw Ms. Cyrus' infamous sheet picture, I thought of the new Lifetime show, How to Look Good Naked. The picture of Ms. Cyrus looks a lot like one from episode 5 (not a good version - it's a screen shot of streaming video):
The main difference is that it is an adult woman who signed a release to have her naked picture shown (on the side of a building and tv). The picture in question of Ms. Cyrus would have to have been approved by her legal guardian (in this case, would it be dear daddy or her agent/manager?). In the "Behind the Scenes" at VanityFair.com, the "erotic" aspect of the picture goes away since she's not naked, really.
Art or pornography is always debated. There was a debate over a photograph owned by Elton John as to whether it was art or porn. I thought it was more in keeping with embarrassing family pictures that you wish your parents would have burned when you turned 18.
