TACOMA, Wash. -- Tacoma police are investigating an apparent homicide-suicide in the North End Sunday morning. Police responded around 9:35 a.m. to a report of shots fired on N. 18th Street near Huson St.. Officers found the body of a 37-year-old woman and a fatally wounded 43-year-old man. The deceased were boyfriend and girlfriend, according to Tacoma police spokesman Capt. Mike Ake. The woman was two months pregnant.
The man was transported to Tacoma General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Based on interviews, detectives believe the man may have attempted suicide in the past.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office did not release the name of the deceased Sunday night. Autopsies will be conducted today .
There were three people in the house at the time of the shooting, Ake said. A roommate of the deceased heard a shot coming from the upstairs bedroom. He went to investigate and found the couple.
A forensics team searched the scene into Sunday evening. Yellow tape blocked off the wide, light gray house, which belonged to the deceased man.
A teal Honda Accord and a red, mud-spattered Toyota SUV were parked in the driveway leading to a two-car garage. Several neighbors gathered in front of the house next door, hugging one another and watching the proceedings. They declined to talk to reporters.
