HAMPTONVILLE — A 49-year-old Hamptonville man was arrested over the weekend, charged with multiple counts of having sex with an underaged girl, according to court records.

Tony Gray Sloop, of 4200 Swaims Church Rd., is in the Yadkin County Jail with a secured bond set at $250,000 after he was charged by deputies with the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office with three felony counts of first degree rape of a child, two felony counts of first degree sex offense of a child, and five felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

According to arrest records, the incidents allegedly occurred the first three months of the year. The victim was under the age of 13, records show.

Det. Robin Moxley said that most of the alleged crimes occurred at Sloop's home. She described Sloop and the victim as "acquaintances."

"The victim came forward," Moxley said Tuesday afternoon.

Moxley said that the investigation is ongoing, indicating that there could be other victims.

"We'll look to see if there are others who are involved," she said.

Sloop, who made his first appearance in Yadkin County District Criminal Court Monday morning, was scheduled to appear Wednesday in court for a probable cause hearing.

On his application for indigent counsel defense, Sloop says that he is self-employed. Andrew Brown, a Jonesville attorney, was appointed by a district court judge Monday to represent Sloop.
