Some are doing better than others, my father and brother-in-law aren't doing so well. My brother-in-law is Mike, James brother. Mike and James just lost their father and mother not too long ago. James never had kids, but Mike and Rita have two. James was a school teacher, I don't know if anyone knew this on this site. He paid his way through college and was a heck of a teacher. I can't stand to see all the hurting my family is going through, but try to pick the right words to comfort them.

It really is a pisser. You want to hope that the kid would actually learn something and try to make sure that he doesn't turn out like his brother, but you know that isn't that way it will turn out.

Kelly said Leppert and her boyfriend, Toby Lee Lowry, 22, had stayed in the woods behind Stewart’s home for two nights before she went to his door and asked to use the phone. Leppert called her own cell phone and disovered that Stewart was hard of hearing and disabled.

Stewart was beaten with two metal rods, stabbed multiple times and suffocated with a plastic bag that night, Kelly said. Detectives had traced the call after finding Leppert’s cell phone at Lowry’s residence in the Palatka area. Stewart’s body was not found until later.

The man accused of a Putnam County homicide and Amber Alert survives a suicide attempt today.

Inside of his Putnam County Jail cell, 22-year-old Toby Lowry attempted to hang himself Friday morning.

"A bedsheet tied around his neck into a make-shift noose," says Major Keith Riddick with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. "And Lowry tightened the noose a little bit and stepped off of his bunk."

But Riddick says Corrections Officer Jason Grennan witnessed the suicide attempt, and helpd Lowry up through the cell bars as he called for help. Additional officers went into the cell and cut Lowry down.

"He kept saying I'm sorry. He was crying as they took him off and kept saying I'm sorry," says Riddick.

Lowry is doing okay and will now be under 24-hour supervision in an isolation cell. He'll also be seen by a mental health evaluator.

I don't understand why they had to kill the poor man to begin with. Clearly they would have had no problem just stealing his car. Beating a man with no hands to death with lead pipes, stabbing him and putting a plastic bag over his head? Smacks of thrill kill to me. It certainly was overkill. Too bad he failed to kill himself, would have saved the tax payers a bundle.

PALATKA, FL -- A Putnam County man was sentenced today for murdering another man in April.

Toby Lowry, 23, was sentenced to life in prison without parole this morning for killing 66-year-old James Stewart in Stewart's home.

Lowry spoke to the victim's family who was in the courtroom.

He told them "I'm very sorry."

Lowry changed his plea from not guilty to guilty last week, ensuring that he would not face the death penalty.

He will also have to testify against his co-defendant, 15-year-old Morgan Leppert. She faces a murder charge as well.
