Nemitz Sentenced To Life In Prison For Scalding Death of Baby

CLEVELAND - Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason announced Joseph Nemitz pleaded guilty today to aggravated murder and was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 30 years.

On November 29, 2008, Nemitz, 29, put his 9-month-old girl in the tub at his Mayfield Heights residence and poured scolding water in the tub.

After the victim was screaming, Nemitz wrapped the victim in a towel and noticed her skin was coming off.

He called 911 and put her in a snow suit to transport her to the hospital.

EMS arrived at the residence and found the baby bleeding through her snow suit, due to the severity of the burns.

She was taken to Hillcrest Hospital, life-flighted to Metro Hospital, and then life-flighted to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

The baby died nine days later on December 7, 2008. The baby suffered severe burns over most of her body.

According to the Hamilton Coroner's Office, the baby had a bruise on her face and cut over her eye, and continued to burn from the inside out until she died.

A life sentence is too kind. Drop his ass in a hole in the ground where we can toss in his meals and he can piss where he lives and eats and I'll be happy. I am losing all desire to treat skin sacks like this with any humanity.

He wasnt fit to be a father... but he sure as hell is fit to be someone bitch "inside"

By the looks of him, he could have been on drugs... since he called 911, its possible he was high and extremely stupid and did it accidently... at least he admitted he was guilty.

I don't know if I have ever read such a starkly soul-shattering last sentence to an article about horrific subject matter.

The baby had a cut and bruise to her face, which makes me assume that it was just the last atrocity in a line of abuse.

None of the articles I found gave the baby a name.

However, one said that he had her in a lukewarm tub of water and decided it was too cool. So he went and boiled water and poured it into the tub about an inch from her body to warm the tub water up.

My mother in law tried to do that to my son when he was a baby. I freaked the hell out and stood in the doorway to block her. Everyone said I was overreacting.

She's a good grandma but she's very old school. In the olden days they use to heat water up like this all the time. I know she wasn't trying to hurt my son but there was no way I was going to let her dump boiling water in the bath with my baby.

If that is what happened here I feel horrible for the dad, a stupid mistake caused his baby excruciating pain and I'm sure he'll never forgive himself.

My mother did this on occasion when I was a child -- poured boiling water from a pan in the tub -- but she didn't pour it right next to my body and she was always telling me to swirl the water around while she was pouring. I think this guy did not just pour the water an inch from her body, or if he did, he must have had her in a small baby tub (which would make sense). The degree of heat that had to have hit her and caused her to "burn from the inside out" is just boggling. I think he may have poured it on her directly. Maybe not realizing. But then, this guy had to have been high as a kite anyway.

he wasn't too high to put water in a pan on top of the stove, turn on the burner, boil the water, take the pan off the stove, and then dump it on the baby.

i want to cover him in boiling water until he cooks from the inside out.

If I find the babies name or pic I'll post it, damn I'm mad.

This is old school though, you guys who posted that your moms had done this, so did mine. but we all know better. shit I told my mom my baby kicked me and she told me to kick her back. she said 'that's how they learn'! wow that doesn't make it a good idea mom.

we learn from our parents mistakes, wish this guy did :-(

This is what I found looking for a obituary, I realized it was her when they never mentioned the father and I looked up the social death index, couldn't find much else except one reporter says she is going to update her article with his past domestic violence criminal past, apparently he had two arrests prior to this for beating women....

Exactly, I also use to ride around without a seatbelt when I was little, my favorite place to ride was laying down in the back window...definitely wouldn't do that now.
