WAFB Channel 9, Baton Rouge, LA |Deputies catch car burglary suspect

LA (WAFB) - A 33-year-old man faces burglary charges after authorities found him sleeping in a vehicle they said he broke into early Sunday morning.

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, James Reynolds of Ventress was "awakened by the alarming sound of clicking handcuffs."

Deputies said they received a call around 3 a.m. of a burglary in progress on Jones Road near Independence.

They found Reynolds asleep in a 2002 Kia Sportage that had been pried open.

After they took him into custody, investigators said they found a jewelry box in the car that was stolen from another car down the street.

They added the damage caused by prying the car open was substantial.

Reynolds was charged with one count of criminal damage to property and two counts of simple burglary.

He was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
