NCHP trooper says kicking dog isn't animal abuse

A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has lost his job in an animal abuse scandal.

It happened after the release of a videotape showing the trooper kicking a dog that was part of the unit's K9 operations. A hearing was held earlier this month.

Although the trooper tried to explain the video and claimed kicking wasn't animal abuse, he was fired.

Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I volunteer with the SPCA of Wake County (here in NC) and
we have a letter writing campaign to keep this jerk from getting
his job back.

No, writing a letter isn't the same as a good old fashioned ass kicking,
but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, in Illinois, abusing a police dog is a more serious crime and carries a heavier penalty....

"The SPCA believes the abuse of "Ricoh" the police dog is inexcusable. Not only should former officer Charles Jones not be reinstated as a NC State Trooper, he should be prosecuted for felony animal abuse. "

And:

"Want justice for the animals? Roll up your sleeves and get ready to voice your opinion because that's the only way things can change. Let the officials below know that you support the firing of former officer Charles Jones and support seeing him prosecuted for cruelty to animals."

He was fired from his job, but he's suing the NCHP to be reinstated.

The SPCA is encouraging people to write in and ask that he NOT get his job back AND that he be prosecuted for abuse of a law enforcement animal which is a felony offense in the State of North Carolina.

I just don't get how he can possibly say that hoisting an animal up by its neck and kicking it four times is not abuse. It's crazy!!!!

Judge Fred Morrison ruled today. He decided that state officials did not give Sgt. Charles Jones due process before they fired him in September. Therefore he ordered them to rehire Jones, give him back pay for the time he has been out and pay his attorney fees.

The state trooper fired in 2007 for repeatedly kicking a drug-sniffing dog during a training exercise is still fighting to get his job back.

Former trooper Charles L. Jones appeared in a Wake County courtroom Wednesday for a hearing in his lawsuit against the state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety over the agency's refusal to reinstate him, even after an administrative law judge and the State Personnel Commission concluded he was improperly terminated

Superior Court Judge Jim Hardin said it will likely be a few weeks before he rules in the case.

Improper termination! What exactly is the "proper" way to terminate an employee that assaults a dog/co- worker?

This sick fuck has no place in law enforcment. I for one would not want to meet up with this trooper at 2AM on an empty highway.

I don't want this animal abuser back out there in any legal capacity. Studies have shown that animal abusers are more likely to abuse children, spouses and others. And, if this puke gets his job back, he'll be out there with an even bigger chip on his shoulder. He's refused to admit his wrong and to take responsibility for his actions. Thus, even if he was ordered into treatment (and I don't see where he was) it is doubtful if he would receive any benefit.

Hey, can a moderator here get this pricks name attached to the heading for this article? That way it would show up if somebody entered his name into a search engine. A lot of prospective employers do that these days. It'd be nice if DD did our part to keep this sick schmuck out of another law enforcement job.

I don't want to meet up with him at 2 am on a deserted highway either.

he assaulted a fellow officer..if i kick a k9 i get assault of an officer. just think of what he does to someone he arrests that is 'innocent until proven guilty'.
