LAS CRUCES, NM - A Las Cruces woman told police she caught her boyfriend molesting a five-year old girl on Friday.

Police say 35-year-old Juan Padilla was arrested in the 1700 block of Idaho Avenue. Detectives say the girl is from another city, but was visiting with relatives for the weekend.

Police said Saturday that shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, Padilla's girlfriend called them to report that she found him sexually assaulting the girl.

I do not understand the charges brought against him...

what part do you not understand? the names of the crimes? or the amount of them?

A bit of both...how someone can be charged for attempting something, then charged twice for doing what was attempted seems to be a tad illogical.

I can see two ways that that could happen.

First, Mom caught him at it the third time before he could carry out the crime.

Second, this isn't his only victim.

Im confused, the title of the thread indicates the girlfriend caught him molesting HER lil girl, but the story indicates she caught him molesting "a" 5 yr old girl who was visiting from out of town.

Is this her child that doesn't live with her or am I missing something?

the source article says the girl was visiting from out of town. it doesn't say what her relationship is with the woman.

i don't know where the the "her" came from.

Yeah I know. But you know the law sometimes. I like that they have the attempted murder charges, THAT one makes sense.

They can charge you with attempt of a lot of stuff. When Im bored I look up records of people I remember from high school or know. One guy i knew was chaged with attempted assult, among other, many dv ,menacing and vpo charges. I was all like wtf at the attempted assult charge. Then I found the the "victim's" name, I know the guy, he has a fitting nickname-BEAR, who happens to be a big ole 6ft+ american indian harley riding fire fighter, and he IS built like a bear. Then I realized the "attempted assault" was a good call,lmao

Then i saw another charge, forget who had it, the charge was just...Attempt...? odd

i think each "penetration" is a crime, and there are unfortunately several ways/places to unlawfully penetrate... um, and sometimes it might not work. i don't want to get any more graphic.

i have had some peripheral experience with a POS i knew getting caught for child sexual abuse. it was a couple of fleeting incidents when he was with her, and MANY text messages but there ended up being around 200 charges.

regardless, when they're deciding how to charge, i'd think they try to throw in as many charges as they can, so when he pleas in exchange for some charges being dropped, there will be some strong charges left for him to be punished.
