AKRON, Ohio - Officers in Akron said a man tried to blow up one of their cruisers by putting a lit cigarette in the gas tank.

The incident happened while officers were dealing with a large crowd in the 1200 block of Weathervane Lane.

Police said 22-year-old Eric Wixcey, of Akron, was seen putting the cigarette in the tank and then running from the scene.

Plice said Eric Wixcey, of North Revere Road, was seen tampering with the gas cap of an Akron cruiser while officers were maintaining order in a large crowd in the 1200 block of Weathervane Lane, a popular entertainment district.

When police approached, they realized that he had removed the gas cap and placed a lit cigarette in the opening. When they went to arrest Wixcey, he ran. He was caught after a brief chase.

Wixcey was charged with arson, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct by an intoxicated person, and molesting police property. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
