Blocks of Cocaine Wash Up On Beach

It wasn't just shells and seaweed that washed ashore on one Texas beach last month.

Authorities said a backpack stuffed with 16 blocks of cocaine was found close to the water's edge.

According to the Galveston Police, the blocks weighed a total of 37 lbs., 2 oz., and had an estimated street value of $2.1 million.

The discovery was made on May 22, the Galveston police said. A person walking along a city beach noticed the black backpack close to the shore, investigators said.

A field test came back positive for cocaine, police said, while adding that each block was wrapped in rubber and plastic

Police believed the drugs were in the water for sometime.
