    BP to lose assets?

"From Florida to Seattle, Washington, from Hawaii to New York, all over California and many, many states across the country, people will be taking to the streets over the next week to demand that the assets of BP be seized now," said Richard Becker, a member of the San Francisco, California, chapter of the group.

"We know millions of people are deeply concerned about what's going on in the Gulf right now, and we expect large numbers of people to come out to the protests."

Sentiment such as Becker's has seemed to grow as more oil from the underwater gusher has made its way to or near coastal areas of Louisiana, Florida and other Gulf Coast states.

U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, who is heading the federal government's response, said the real fix will be a relief well but that won't be working until August. He said authorities have been "relentless" with its oversight of BP's efforts and are making sure the company exhausts every possible method.
BP Sucks and they have lied since the beginning. They new it was spewing more than 200k gallons a day. I mean the daily production of the last year would have told them that. They staged a fake clean up as well which really Gauls my Ass. I probably won't be able to walk by the end of the day and I will never by anything from BP again.

The water supply in my house has a faucet to shut it off. There is also a shut off under the sink, another just inside the house, yet another outside near the road, and quite a few big ones between there and wherever it starts at. I'm willing to bet there is even a really honking big one at the main water plant.

How hard would it be to have safety shutoffs throughout this sort of system? They were down there laying pipe anyway.

Obviously there is no regulation (either government or corporate) that covers what should have been the unthinkable but obviously possible.

Big money buys their own regulations, rules and laws. Oil companies have always bought everyone and have always done as they pleased, most big companies make the mafias of the world look like child's play. They have legalized stealing with their lobby money and future huge paying jobs to politicians when they retire from office.

Agreed. But how expensive can a shut-off valve be compared to the price everyone will pay now.

Lot of wells, lot of multiple shut-off valves to make them safe, probably used the money they saved to buy a few more politicians so they could illegally get more contracts and drill a few more unsafe wells.

Yep. Agree 10000000000000000%. They make their own rules and regulations.

Fucking son of a whore. He wants his worthless life back? We'd like out lives back too...and our jobs, homes, barrier islands, wildlife, water and culture back! We are watching an entire way of life disappear. Fuck him with a nail studded dildo! Selfish, whiny little fucktard. He wants his life back? I'd like to beat him for days. Also, your news is being censored to "avoid panic". Here, in America, freedom of speech is apparently optional for the masses; we only get news the government wants us to hear.

    What you won't hear:

    1) people are getting sick.
    2) This is a toxic spill.
    3) The fumes are causing respiratory problems; it's unknown what the long-term effects will be.
    4) The 1st thing BP did was hire everyone out of work b/c of the spill, to "assist in the cleanup" CYA
5)They then had to sign a "no talking to anybody" agreement
    6) Word is the oil (and God knows what else) has reached the mouth of the Mississippi and the Atchafalya Basin.

I'm too mad to go on. Sorry for the rant, but I am sick of this entire clusterfuck. I have 3 kids down there and each phone call from them is one long horror story. I was asked, but can't go until the doctor gives me a release. I am trying to find people, groups and relief organizations to help the families in need. They don't need food or clothes..they need mortgage payments, car payments...

Fuck BP! *fill up this page with "fuck BP"

    Angry Fuck BP

The question I have: When this proposal was submitted to drill one of the deepest wells, why was there not a solution in the proposal to cap this in case something went horribly wrong as it did? It seems very irresponsible to allow BP to Drill at a depth which has not been done before and not have a plan for such emergency. We hear after the fact that they have never had to try to cap a well this deep.

"BP CEO Tony Hayward said in an interview with the Financial Times that it was unprepared for the disaster." NO FUCKING KIDDING!!
There is a lot to be said with agency that even allowed this to project to go forward.
This was wrong in so many ways.

This is only part of the equation. They measure the cost of the shut-off valve against what they perceive are both the chances of needing it and the likely total liability. Once they determine a balance point, they determine which side of it is more likely to work out favorably for their bottom line, and they go that way.

Sad thing is, TransOcean (the company that actually did the drilling and oil rig construction) had this exact same problem, in the exact same area, 30 years ago. They tried all the same methods, all of them failed. The only solution was drilling a relief well, as BP has claimed is happening now. It took months, and the oil devastated the region.

    It'll probably happen again, too.
