NEWKIRK — Melissa Dawn Blackwell, 22, Burbank, entered a plea of guilty to a felony count of child abuse by injury in Kay County District Court.
Blackwell and Travis Earl Ligon, 30, were arrested by Ponca City police in September of 2009.
According to the police affidavit, a 16-month old child, the son of Blackwell, was brought to Ponca City Medical Center on April 16 with bilateral bruising on his face and other body parts.
The doctor on duty told police that the injuries seemed to be several days old and that bruising on each side of the face resembled a human hand.
After a police investigation warrants were issued for Blackwell and Ligon.
Ligon entered a plea of guilty to felony charges of child abuse and enabling child abuse by injury and was sentenced to a 20-year suspended sentence in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections by Judge D.W. Boyd.
