Melissa Blackwell Pleads Guilty To Beating The Hell Out Of Her 16 Month Old

NEWKIRK — Melissa Dawn Blackwell, 22, Burbank, entered a plea of guilty to a felony count of child abuse by injury in Kay County District Court.
Blackwell and Travis Earl Ligon, 30, were arrested by Ponca City police in September of 2009.
According to the police affidavit, a 16-month old child, the son of Blackwell, was brought to Ponca City Medical Center on April 16 with bilateral bruising on his face and other body parts.

The doctor on duty told police that the injuries seemed to be several days old and that bruising on each side of the face resembled a human hand.
After a police investigation warrants were issued for Blackwell and Ligon.
Ligon entered a plea of guilty to felony charges of child abuse and enabling child abuse by injury and was sentenced to a 20-year suspended sentence in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections by Judge D.W. Boyd.

Sentencing was deferred for two years by Judge Leslie Page.
The court scheduled a hearing for Blackwell on Feb. 21, 2012.

This is sickening. I have to suppose that the court has returned care of the child to the "parents" and is retaining "custody". The hearing in two years would be to determine if the two have learned and maintained parenting skills before returning the custody of the child to them without threat of supervision. I hope the supervision they get in the meantime is frequent.

In the pictures album are children, most of them are of himself.

I sure do hope the children are not returned to either, it doesn't say in any article that he is the bio-unit of the 16 month old and I am praying he isn't. Something about his "attitude" tells me he shouldn't reproduce........

What is up with Oklahoma? Could the DA not prove which one abused the poor baby?
