Woman Trapped For Days Under Body of Dead Husband

Atlanta, GA A newspaper carrier who grew concerned over papers piling up outside a southern Illinois home found an 84-year old woman pinned beneath the body of her husband, who had apparently been dead for days.

According to a Williamson County coroner, Fred Roberts apparently collapsed and died Wednesday evening after mowing the lawn. As he fell, he trapped his wife Blanche on a landing leading from the kitchen to the basement.

Newspaper carrier Bruce Pitts discovered the frail woman, who was alert and responsive, pinned against a wall with her right leg trapped beneath her husband.

Roberts’ family report she is in intensive care and doing fine.
