Drunken Toddler Taken to ER, Stepfather Arrested
An Erlanger man is under arrest after his toddler stepdaughter was taken to the hospital, drunk and unconscious.

Police say 23 year old Raymond Jackson of Crescent Springs encouraged his two year old stepdaughter to drink a mixture of gin and iced tea on Saturday. The child passed out and an ambulance was called.

The little girl was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood and had a blood alcohol level over a .250. The child was later transported to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati due to the seriousness of the alcohol level.

Police say Jackson was the only adult home at the time of the alleged incident. He's charged with felony Criminal Abuse.

On May 22, Erlanger police arrested Jackson after they say the toddler had a blood alcohol level of .259, more than three times the legal limit in Kentucky.

Sanders told the judge that Jackson, a former Marine who was discharged, has a previous conviction in North Carolina for child abuse involving the same little girl.

The child also has rib fractures from a previous incident which is also under investigation.

Public Defender Ava Hager stated the child took sips of the drink while Jackson was either in the bathroom or checking on a 6-month-old baby also in his care.

The judge ruled there is enough evidence to move the case forward and denied a request for a lower bond.

Jackson remains behind bars on a $10,000 bond.

Raymond Jackson pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal abuse, avoiding a trial scheduled to begin Wednesday.


Judge Patricia Summe will sentence Jackson Feb. 8. Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders is recommending Jackson be sentenced to seven years and six months in prison. The charge is punishable by five years to 10 years in prison.

Erlanger police Detective Kim Klare’s investigation found that Jackson gave the toddler alcohol while he watched her. When the child’s mother came home from work, she found the 2-year-old passed out.

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - A Kenton County man accused of getting a 2-year-old child drunk has been sentenced to 90 months in prison.

Raymond Jackson, 23, pleaded guilty to charges of encouraging his own stepdaughter in May of 2010 to drink a combination of Gin and iced tea, which caused her to pass out. Police say the child's blood alcohol level was measured at 0.25. Which is over three times the legal limit for an adult in Kentucky. Her condition was so serious; she was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital for treatment. The child recovered.

Man Gets Prison For Getting Toddler Drunk

Prosecutors say Jackson gave the girl the alcohol at his Crescent Springs home in order to make her sleepy, because he didn't feel like watching her.

In court today, Jackson's attorneys said that some of his actions may be attributed to post-traumatic stress disorder, after Jackson served a tour as a Marine in Iraq. But McKenzie's grandfather, who shares custody with her mother, told the judge he wasn't buying it. The judge also had harsh words for Jackson, even after his in-court apology and sentenced him to seven and a half years in prison.

Jackson pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of abuse against McKenzie in North Carolina in 2009. In that incident, McKenzie was left with injuries, including bruising. He received a 60 day suspended sentence and one year of probation. He was also ordered to take parenting classes.

I don't understand why the mother wasn't charged. He pled guilty to abusing the little girl... so she then left him to babysit?
