Jon Arbon, enraged by little Patricia's dancing, allegedly took action

ST. JOHNS - A 24-year-old man charged in the January death of his 3-year-old stepdaughter is expected to plead guilty to child abuse and manslaughter charges, his attorney and prosecutors said today.

In Clinton County District Court today, Jon Arbon waived his right to a preliminary hearing, sending the case to circuit court. . . .

Clinton County Prosecutor Chuck Sherman told Judge Richard Wells that he has made a plea offer to Arbon, who is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of Patricia Hixson.

In exchange for dropping those charges, Arbon would have to plead guilty to manslaughter and child abuse, Sherman said. He would face up to 15 years in prison.

    . . .

Arbon is accused of killing Patricia in a fit of anger.

According to police, Arbon told them [BOLD] he became angry with Patricia the afternoon of Jan. 23 because she was singing and dancing in the living room. He said he grabbed Patricia by the head and flung her backward, and she struck her head on a coffee table.[/BOLD]

She was taken to Sparrow Hospital, where [BOLD]she died the next day[/BOLD].

Arbon, his wife Kasie Hixson, and Patricia had moved from Colorado and were living with Kasie's mother in DeWitt at the time, police said.

Geez, he must have been hungover or something. What's so bad about a happy little girl that you have to kill her for it?

Unless he was one of of those religious type people who don't believe in dancing but thinks it's okay to brutalize those younger and weaker than him.

To me a dancing singing baby is the happiest sweetest sight in the world, I loved hearing my son scream and squeal with joy as loud as he could and just laugh and giggle afterward. We sometimes had screaming contests, it was fun.

I feel so sorry for people like him who can't see joy and happiness in anything, but on the other hand I hope he really suffers the rest of his life for what he did to this baby.

Nah, the religious types beat to death with switches and such. Slower, but it gives the child a chance to "repent".

Patricia S. Hixson "Super-Hero-Princess" DeWitt Our special little girl Patricia, who touched so many lives, passed away January 24, 2010, at the age of 3. She was preceded in death by her papa, James D. Hixson. Surviving are her parents, Jon and Kasie Arbon; Grandma, Beverly Hixson; Great Grandpa and Grandma Smith; Godmother, Aunt Debbie; Godfather, Uncle Kenny; special aunts, uncles, cousins; and many other loved family members. Tricia's beautiful smile brought laughter and joy to all who knew and loved her. The adorable Tricia, "Super-Hero-Princess" loved butterfly kisses and giving to others. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation 1 hour prior to service, at Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge Street, DeWitt, MI with the Rev. Dwight M. Ezop as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing, MI. My 5 year old boy is always singing. His voice is so angelic, and it makes me cry,it's so beautiful because he still sounds like a baby. The beauty of innocence, is not something that many can see. I am glad I can see that beauty and I will never take it for granted.

I don't understand what bothered him so. But I think like Reds, does. I think it was a case of making the child just as unhappy as he was. Now instead of the sounds of a sweet baby girl, singing and dancing, he will hear the true sounds of hate, misery, and rage....I hope he never goes deaf!!!!!

I am assuming someone doesn't know how to spell PawPaw. Look at grandma's name. And this wouldn't be the first time a woman has stood by the penis that killed her child. Little girl has her mothers maiden name. I am guessing bio dad didn't stick around.

I'd agree--I grew up calling my favorite/closest grandfather Papaw (most up here in the north cannot pronounce it for some reason--it's "pap-paaaw"). It was quite common in our area, and I never really see anyone referring to their dads anymore as papa or pa, makes me think of Little House on the Prairie.

I agree though, regardless of who "Papa" represented in this case--it's sick to have her murderer listed as one of those who will mourn her passing.

I hate this mom because I read an article earlier and can't find it now that she is supporting her husband and wants him to get help and she'll still be here for him after jail. Cuz he's like a good person that made a bad decision. Bah!

Family members are still mourning the loss of three-year-old Patricia Hixson. Tuesday, police arrested 23-year-old Jon Arbon for the murder of his step-daughter in late January. Patricia's mom says it's difficult knowing nothing will bring her little girl back. Three-year-old Patricia was full of life. Family members called her the super hero princess because she always wanted to save everyone. Instead, her life was cut short all too soon.
Chief Larry Jerue, DeWitt Police Department: "As much as we all hoped and prayed that this was truly an accident, a tragic, horrible accident, the reality is that it came at the hands of another person."
On January 23rd, DeWitt Police Chief Larry Jerue says Jon Arbon got angry when he saw Patricia singing and dancing around the living room. He grabbed her and threw her to the ground. Jerue thinks she hit her head on the corner of the coffee table.
Chief Larry Jerue: "It's difficult to comprehend that your anger would get to be such that you would use force against a child in anger."
An autopsy showed the cause of death was severe, blunt trauma to the brain. Mom, Kasie, did not want to go on camera, but says that after Patricia's death, her husband feels responsible, that he's hurting and shut off. She says she's devastated by what he did and can't understand why he did it, but she says good people do bad things and that Arbon truly loved Patricia.
Kasie: "You're alone and you think, you know, why, you know, it's, that's the hard part."
Kasie says the hardest part is knowing her baby is gone and the person she's married to is responsible. Arbon is being held in the Clinton County Jail without bond. He faces one count of second-degree murder and another count of first-degree child abuse. If convicted he could face life behind bars, a sentence that Patricia's mom says won't change anything. She just wants him to get the help he needs.

DeWitt man pleads guilty in tot's deathST. JOHNS – Kasie Arbon has forgiven her husband, who admitted today that he caused the death of her 3-year-old daughter.

Outside a Clinton County courtroom today, shortly after Jon Arbon, 24, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and first-degree child abuse, the 31-year-old DeWitt woman said Arbon never intended to harm her daughter, Tricia.

“I can forgive him because he didn’t mean to hurt her,” Kasie said, adding: “He has to live with this for the rest of his life. He will punish himself more than anything.”

    [...]
At today's plea hearing, Arbon, wearing a yellow jail uniform, told Judge Randy Tahvonen that on Jan. 23, Tricia, his stepdaughter, “was getting loud” in the living room.

“I overreacted, and I pushed her,” Arbon said in a quiet voice.

ricia’s head struck the edge of a coffee table, and she was knocked unconscious. She died the next day.

Arbon first reported that Tricia had fallen down a flight of stairs while he was in a bathroom, police said. He was alone with her at the time. A few weeks later, Arbon admitted what he had done, police said, and he was arrested.

I adore my daughter singing and dancing in the living room, the bathroom, the kitchen, in circles or anywhere. I don't understand but I guess that is why he is there and I am here enjoying the life of my wonderful little girls.

Just what exactly did he mean to do when he grabbed her by the head and flung her backwards? Last time I checked that wasn't the way to give a child a hug. Stupid woman.

DeWitt man sentenced in connection with death of stepdaughter
    ST. JOHNS -
    [...]
Jon Arbon pleaded guilty last month to manslaughter and first-degree child abuse. He said he "overreacted" Jan. 23 and pushed his stepdaughter, Tricia Hixson, into a coffee table. She was knocked unconscious and died the next day.
At a hearing Monday in Clinton County Circuit Court, Arbon was sentenced to seven to 15 years on both counts. He will serve the sentences concurrently, said Clinton County Prosecutor Chuck Sherman

I'm glad he got some time, but that sentencing just sucks. Concurrent? I hate that. 15 years is nothing.

They should have fried this SOB. I can't believe 15 years for murdering a precious Super Princess. I hope and pray the bitch who gave this precious angel life doesn't have any other children and is NEVER able to procreate again. This guy will be out in very short time. The scary part is they are young enough to produce more children and do this again.
I got front row seats last night as my nieces decided to have a recital for me. They had me put on a Hannah Montana CD. They have toy microphones and stood in the middle of my living room dancing their tiny hearts out and trying to act like they were singing along. It was SO incredibly priceless and something I wouldn't want to have missed for the world.
RIP Sweet Angel. You deserved to be loved, protected and nurtured. I'm so sorry your egg donor didn't protect you and make better choices in her life. As I hug and kiss my nieces good night each night, I will be sure to think of you. You are in Heaven but will never be gone from our hearts.
