A Gastonia man faces assault charges after police say he beat up a woman using steel toed boots Monday.
According to a warrant affidavit, Ryan Bradley Nielsen, 22, of the 100 block of Rocky Ridge Way, assaulted his girlfriend of five years by grabbing her shirt and throwing her on the bed.
Gaston County Police Officer J.H. Pendergrass wrote that Nielsen punched the woman in the face three times and once on the top of her head.
"He pushed her down on the floor and kicked her in the head above her left eye with a pair of steel toed boots," Pendergrass wrote.
A witness told Pendergrass that Nielsen threatened the woman that he would kill her if she called police.
Nielsen is in Gaston County Jail under a domestic violence hold.
