Police: Kidnapped Woman Freed Unharmed
PHOENIX -- A woman kidnapped during a home invasion on May 5 in the Maryvale-area of West Phoenix has been safely released, police said.
Karley Rivera Saucedo, 22, was freed by the Phoenix Police Special Assignments Unit from a home in the area of 7000 South 46th Lane. Her release came after a week of negotiations and countless hours of surveillance, officers said.
Six people were arrested and booked on charges of kidnapping, extortion, armed robbery, aggravated assault and vehicle theft.
Police said four men entered a home near 59th Avenue and West Indian School Road on May 5. The home was occupied by the victim, her 17-year-old sister and a baby, police said.
Officers said the armed suspects demanded drugs and money. When the demands were not met, police said the suspects took Saucedo from the home, along with a a Chevrolet SUV.
The vehicle was later recovered and processed for evidence.
“This was a sophisticated group of naturalized citizens and illegal (immigrants) who chose to prey on vulnerable victims for monetary gain,” said Detective James Holmes with the Phoenix Police Department. “Each had well-designed and specific tasks geared toward the success of their criminal operation.”
Holmes said the investigation took detectives all over the city, with arrests made at several locations.
Those taken into custody were Oscar Grijalva, 18; Jose Luna-Valenzuela, 22; Hilda Guitierrez, 29; Carlos Aguilar, 28, and two 17-year-old boys.
