New Casey Anthony Attorney Officially Joins Case
Ann Finnell Asks Judge Perry To Set Budget

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony’s newest lawyer filed paperwork on Friday to officially join the case.
Ann Finnell, a death penalty qualified attorney from Jacksonville, could have various roles in the case, depending on whether Anthony is convicted of murder.
Finnell said her role is mostly confined to the penalty phase of the trial. If Anthony is found not guilty, she will have a much smaller role in the case.
Much of Finnell’s claim to fame comes from the 2001 Academy Award-winning documentary “Murder on a Sunday Morning.”
The film follows the efforts of Finnell and fellow public defender Patrick McGinness as they work to gain the acquittal of 15-year-old Brenton Butler.
Butler was charged with murder. The jury believed Jacksonville police were willing to force a confession out of Bulter to clear the case, rather than do a diligent investigation for the real killer.
In the case against Anthony, Finnell will be concentrating on presenting so-called mitigation evidence if there is a penalty phase in the trial.
“Hopefully it will never get to a penalty phase. Hopefully Miss Anthony is found not guilty and my role will be greatly diminished,” Finnell told a Jacksonville newspaper.
At a news conference announcing her addition to the defense team, Anthony’s lawyers said Finnell had agreed to do the work free of charge.
However, in a new motion, Finnell asks Judge Belvin Perry to come up with a budget for her work.
Finnell said she will need to employ a private investigator, psychiatrist and mitigation specialist. (I thought there was already an investigator, a shrink and already mitigation experts who have appeared on the visitation list in jail. Is it they want to get paid. Exactly who, what was paid with the 285K Jose got? Taxpaying minds really want an accounting which I think we are entitled to.. would hate to pay once for Casey.. let alone TWICE!)
In the motion to determine reasonable costs, Finnell estimated the total cost to taxpayers during a penalty phase could run about $20,000.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Roy Kronk, the man who discovered Caylee Anthony's remains in a wooded area in December 2008, dismissed new claims on Friday from Casey Anthony's defense team that duct tape was only marginally stuck to her daughter Caylee's hair.
Kronk’s claims could help prosecutors argue that Anthony was the one who dumped her daughter’s remains. He also provides the state a non-law enforcement eyewitness who says that the duct tape was clearly placed over Caylee’s mouth.
Just hours after discovering the remains, Kronk told detectives he lifted up the bottom of a trash bag and "a human skull dropped out with hair around it and duct tape across the mouth."
Kronk reiterated what he saw in another interview a week later.
“When I moved it, that's when I saw duct tape across the mouth area and it immediately registered to me what I had seen,” Kronk said.
For the first time this week, Anthony’s attorneys claimed Kronk and others are mistaken about the tape.
There are photographs we have showing where it was and just establishing the tape was not adhered to any part of this child -- some stuck on the hair that's all,” said Anthony defense attorney Cheney Mason.
Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby, who is not involved in the case, said Mason’s claim about the positioning of the tape leaves room for them to argue that it was not placed on Caylee’s mouth as an act of premeditated murder.
“It's open to the defense to argue it was placed there post mortem -- it was used for some reason to wrap the child up in the bag,” Hornsby said.
Kronk’s attorney dismissed that as a possibility on Friday, saying that the idea that the tape was used to wrap up the remains is completely inconsistent with what his client saw.
Also significant is the fact that Kronk called in several tips to authorities about a suspicious bag four months before he went back to the area off Suburban Drive to open the bag.

WOFL-Ch. 35 has deepened its Casey Anthony coverage by adding Orlando attorney Diana Tennis as an analyst.
In another sharp move, WOFL has anchor Bob Frier debrief Tennis about issues. Their conversation is intelligent, down-to-earth, lively. It’s as if you’re listening to two friends discuss the case.
On Thursday evening, they discussed the number of prosecution witnesses in the case, which could approach 300.
“It’s hard to overstate how unusual this is,” Tennis said. “Your typical murder case, even if there were lots and lots of unusual things going on, would still only have 50, 60, 70 witnesses tops.”
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.
In Anthony reporting today, WESH-Ch. 2’s Bob Kealing returned to the issue of duct tape. Roy Kronk, the meter reader who found Caylee’s remains, said the duct tape was across the toddler’s mouth. Defense attorney Cheney Mason this week said that photos show the tape “was not adhered to any part of this child — some stuck on the hair, that’s all.”
Orlando attorney Richard Hornsby theorized, in analysis for WESH, that the defense could argue that the tape was placed on Caylee after she died or used to wrap the child in a bag.
But David Evans, Kronk’s attorney, told Kealing: “The idea that the tape was used to somehow wrap up the remains is completely inconsistent with what Roy saw.”
New Anthony attorney Ann Finnell, a death penalty expert who is working pro bono, filed a motion that her expenses could approach $20,000. Those expenses would include hiring a private investigator.
“Most of those expenses would only crop up if Anthony is convicted of premeditated murder,” WESH anchor Jim Payne noted.
WFTV-Ch. 9 anchor Bob Opsahl listed some Finnell expenses: $7,500 for psychological tests and $4,000 for her travel to visit Casey’s relatives.

I mean casey is innocent right? So why would it matter to her defense where the duct tape was placed on Caylee. This is a total telling moment in my opinion. They know they are not going to win this, so they are going about making it seem less heinous then it was ( as if) I hope I am making sense here. If I was on the jury I would have to wonder why the defense feels it's important to point out how the duct tape was placed. Since casey is innocent obviously she didnt have anything to do with the duct tape so why waste time here, especially since they also insist casey didn't put Caylee there.. I mean are they defending the "real" perp too?

WFTV-Ch. 9’s Kathi Belich said 32 EquuSearch volunteers were officially searching the area two years ago, but the defense believes more were there. “The defense wants to try to show that Caylee’s body was not placed there until after Oct. 14 of 2008, when Casey was locked up on no bond to try to prove Casey couldn’t have put Caylee’s body there,” Belich said.
Belich also followed up her report that investigators believe a volunteer might have falsified documents in the search. Volunteeer Laura Buchanan has said she found nothing in her search of the area, the Anthony defense team says. But, Belich added, “Another volunteer says Buchanan is working with the defense and is using a fake document to prove her claim.”
EquuSearch founder Tim Miller told Belich that the allegations wouldn’t be taken lightly and that he spent a lot of time and money on the search.
Did Buchanan doctor documents? “Absolutely not,” defense attorney Cheney Mason told Belich.
On WOFL-Ch. 35, anchor Bob Frier asked if the defense is “looking for that one person to come out and say, you know what, I searched that area and didn’t find a thing”?
“That’s exactly what they’re looking for,” said Orlando attorney Diana Tennis, who offers analysis for the station. “Reasonable doubt … just one little issue for one particular juror.”
But Tennis added that the approach could backfire on the defense. “If I were the prosecution … I’d sit back and let them go through the boxes, let them find the people that were in the area, and then send out my own investigators, and it’s just as likely they’re going to say the water was hip-deep, there’s no way way we could have gone back there,” Tennis said.
The defense will continue to look at Texas EquuSearch documents on Tuesday.
Belich said the defense had questioned volunteers today about whether they searched the area. The defense “will have to convince the judge some of these witnesses are relevant to the case,” she added.
WFTV noted that another Texas EquuSearch volunteer deposition will be Oct. 13, there will be more depositions on Oct. 20 and a status hearing is set for Oct. 29.

A sad admission but a surprise to no one. Having been instructed not to talk to the press, one still managed to. The police likely have good reason to be searching the island and since Kyron has been gone since June 4th, the summer weather would have taken its toll, unless water impeded the decomposition process.
Question: Why not Texas Equasearch?
Answer: I do not know. I can speculate, however.

For those of us who follow the Casey Anthony case, we know that Cindy Anthony is capable of much cruelty. We have seen her as acutely neglectful of her granddaughter (see prior analysis and commentary) and we have seen her willing to put to death an innocent man or woman in exchange for Casey Anthony's life.
Objection: What does this have to do with Texas Equasearch and Tim Miller?
Tim Miller's Texasequasearch was conceived in tragedy, and its work is in the midst of tragedy.
By the time he is called in, many cases are concluded that they are looking for a body.
It is constant sadness.
The secondary trauma must be severe.
But there is one thing that Tim Miller could always count on in his difficult, costly, and emotionally devastating work:
he could bring closure to a grieving and broken family.
When a family finally meets Miller, he is a source of comfort and will "bring 'em home" for proper burial. It is beyond description for me to consider what a parent must feel thinking their child is "out there" in the wilderness, and not in a proper burial. Stephen King once said that in his most wild imagination he cannot compare the horror of what a parent does to himself in worrying what might happen to his child.

You know there will always be those few dishonest assholes who might want their 15 minutes of fame and interviews and the money associated with being involved in this case. They groom herds of women, run blogs, do anything and everything for that fix of attention.
It is not about Justice for Caylee for most people that we see involved in this case. The Anthony family are not for Caylee. There are people out there who scream ... it's about MONEY... it's about Fame... it's about Publicity. They are narcisissts in their own way. These people involve themselves in different self-serving ways in this case... it most certainly is not about Caylee to them and it NEVER was about a murdered child.
I hope Judge Perry and the State Attornies Office who are about justice for Caylee do their job. Hope they don't falter like Marsha Clark and get out maneuvered (I can't see neither Baez nor any of the scam team attornies being that smart) and I hope that none of the jurors are on that jury with a hidden agenda.. (in this day and age you have to wonder). I worry about who is on that jury who is not honest with what they see and think they may be the fly in the ointment.
