Casey Anthony defense wants DNA testing on Caylee's shorts
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...,2190766.storyThe Casey Anthony defense team wants DNA testing done on a canvas bag found at the discovery site of Caylee Marie Anthony's remains and shorts the prosecution believes Caylee wore, according to a new motion filed in court.
Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason say they want DNA testing done on a canvas bag found at the recovery site and "shorts the State of Florida believes was worn by Caylee Marie Anthony," according to the motion.
The defense also asks that the items be tested by its DNA expert Richard Eikelenboom of the Dutch-based Independent Forensic Services.
"Mr. Eikelenboom is world renowned and highly regarded as a pioneer in the field of touch DNA, an area that could prove useful to the defense," the motion states. "Many laboratories in the United States have not mastered this technique, thereby placing a severe restriction on its [the defense team's] ability to find an expert with this expertise."
Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton has asked that such evidence be tested in the United States and that the lab used be certified by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors.
The Casey Anthony defense team in the motion argues that "not all DNA laboratories are crime labs. A vast majority of them are not."
All 15 certified labs in Florida "are directly affiliated with governmental law enforcement," the defense argues.
"In order to conduct truly independent forensic testing many lawyers have relied on experts from areas of academia or former law enforcement to test evidence and draw away from the inherently biased approach of law enforcement only testing," the motion states.
Eikelenboom's Independent Forensic Services is accredited with the Dutch accreditation counsel RVA, a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation.
The defense motion concludes by stating it has been "successful in retaining a premier and highly qualified expert that is willing to test the items of evidence pro bono. Yet the State of Florida insists on placing a burden on the defense and the taxpayers..."
Casey Anthony, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old child, Caylee Marie. The child's remains were found in late 2008, months after she was reported missing by her family. The Casey Anthony trial is expected to start in May.
A status hearing is scheduled later today in the Casey Anthony case.
Check back for more details.
I wonder if the duhfense has seen the pictures of Caylee wearing the same shorts that were found where the spiteful bitch dumped her daughter's body? In other words, why test for DNA? They were Caylee's shorts and the prosecutors have pictures showing the child wearing the same shorts. WTF!??!
It's an interesting idea from the defense to want to use this guy, considering that he is a "pioneer" in the field and many labs in the US haven't mastered the technique. Sounds a lot like an argument they'd use AGAINST the Body Farm's evidence. *shakes head* Idiots."Mr.

What is junk science is the stuff that proves Casey guilty ... the smell of a dead body in the damn car not pizza. In the late 80's there were sniffer machines to detect the plastic explosives that people could put into the luggage compartment in airplanes and all suitcases were goign to be smelled. That was 20 years ago and technology has advanced.... Is it junk science.. doesn't matter CINDY and George and people said it smelled like a dead body.
Touch dna is more junk science.... but come on folks we got labs in America... These Dutch scientists just want some kroners... or are they using Euros there too.. in other words they want the fame and fortune and resume enhancements that this case can provide them. It's just a waste of taxpayers dollars... Don't you think enough grand dollars have been garnered on this case. I sure do!
Will it meet the Fry Standard is the question. I think it will be admissable... but more important is the depos... I don't like this says George but I have to be honest with you... perhaps that was the last time he was honest... and perhaps the sealed Grand Jury testimony.
Here is the live video link friends.

Crap!!! TruTV is having audio problems!
I can't get on the link you posted, Angel ..
I need another one STAT!!![]()
Wow! Not many people at the hearing! Even that producer dude is missing...what's his name, Jim Lichtenstein?
Dear Mommy...I see you smile down there below...are those tears of joy you show? I'm glad you're happy, although you lied...I'd love to be right by your side...but by your choice, I view from above...tell my Grandparents I send my love...it's Beautiful here, is all I can say...your life will go on... without me in your way. Love Caylee XOXO......
NO JUSTICE FOR CAYLEE - copyright that!
Why do you think that Baez (or possibly Casey) wants Casey at certain depositions? Judge Perry says the rules say no, but Baez says it may be allowable under certain circumstances and he has to file a motion. Wonder what the deal is here?
OMG!! Amy's working on a cruise ship. I am leaving on a cruise out of Miami on Monday. What are the chances that we will be on the same ship? They said she comes ashore on Saturdays. That is the day we get back. I wonder.....
Have fun Sinny, but you better have that extremely detailed report ready when you get back if she's on that cruise!!!!!!!!
Just kidding! Have fun only!
An out of country forensics lab? Or was I hearing that wrong? I think Baez is just trying to be difficult at this point!
I love Judge Perry!!!! "I would NOT want to be caught violating the rules......"
The deal has already been cut. I'm going to give you a hint. Look at who was visiting Casey in jail... google them and find the book company they are affiliated with . There is a connection to Geraldo. Did you think all this time Gil Cabot/Todd Black was worth nothing???? Please check it out and verify my findings.
Wouldn't this make Casey even more "special" and set a precident. Did you notice how bumbling Jose was. He was not even uttering a coherent sentence. Total waste of air. Where was Dodo Bird today????? Ya'd think she would have had her Indian monkeys.. oh I mean doctors give Jose text messages on how to get the Dutch touch DNA included from the Dutch lab inspite of it being outside of the Interstate Compact Agreement.... maybe she bought a TV because she was so proud to be associated with Baez and Mason. Ya reading here Dorothy??? You picked the Titantic to affiliate with.... they thought that was unsinkable.. but I KNOW its about furthering your business money I mean doctor monkey business in India... 150 an hour... kachink kachink.
I would bet Amy would be working with the children's program or someplace where her English skills would be used. I would bet as part of the "Entertainment Staff" perhaps with the pool area games etc. She had no dancing/acting skills. She would not be a behind scenes person.. the shows travel with their dressers etc. Customer service requires long training and indoctrination for the cruise ships. Her hair can be any color but there are plenty of pictures of Amy Huzinga around. (If I were her I'd be trying to hide) Cruise ships do not pay well and they generally work their staff to death.

and don't forget great comments on that site.Judge Belvin Perry’s style drew the most scrutiny in coverage today of the Casey Anthony case.
WESH-Ch. 2’s Bob Kealing said it was surprising that a status hearing turned to arguments over a defense motion filed today. The defense wants to send two pieces of evidence — a laundry bag and a pair of shorts found near Caylee’s remains — to researchers in the Netherlands. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.
The prosecution expressed concern that an overseas lab might not follow protocols. A definite Perry stressed that he wouldn’t allow evidence to be shipped out of the country.
“But Perry did say he was inclined to go ahead and grant the defense’s motion, which means the two sides are going to have to come up with a lab within the United States they can agree on,” Kealing said.
WFTV-Ch. 9’s Kathi Belich focued on the defense’s request to depose eight corrections officers and have Anthony there. Defense attorney Jose Baez says Anthony knows the guards by face and not by name, Belich explained. Perry seemed skeptical on the point as he questioned Baez about the rules.
“The defense plans to file a motion to ask the judge’s persmission to let Casey be there,” Belich said. “The judge seemed almost stunned by that request and doesn’t seem to be leaning in that direction.”
WOFL-Ch. 35 anchor Bob Frier asked about the way Perry keeps things moving.
“This is such a level of micromanagement I have never seen,” said Orlando attorney Diana Tennis, who provides analysis for the station. “This is just really unusual.”
Observers have come to expect unusual in this case.
Dr. Jan Garavaglia, the Orange County medical examiner known as Dr. G on television, will be deposed Tuesday.
