Cindy Anthony Memorial Speech
This is Cindy Anthony's Memorial Speech. Analysis follows.
"Some of you know that I’ve been battling a cold the last few weeks so I hope I get through this. I’m armed-I’ve been armed for months w/my trinkets my bracelets my Caylee bracelets Caylee I love you, missing children — I like jewelry but its getting ridiculous, my arm’s getting heavier and heavier but it brings me peace. I remember the day that Casey came to me to tell me the news that I would be a grand mother as though it was yesterday. I remember her beauty and her radiance as she spoke. My immediate reaction was of total peace and joy. I knew that our lives would be blessed but I never realized just how blessed until the day that Caylee Marie was born. The moment I saw Caylee Marie and the instant she was placed in my arms, she stole my heart forever. My heart just melted. I knew from then on that her heart was strong and that she would be a very special child. Caylee was a perfect baby. I remember one day when I came to pick her up from Holly’s house, Holly was telling me about an outing she had at Publix and how Holly said people just kept coming up to her and wondering what was going on bc Caylee was there squealing and laughing and carrying on and Caylee had a voice, even when she was a baby, she had a voice I remember Lee saying, mom- she’s so loud! She wouldn’t wake up crying she’d wake up laughing. She’s wake up cooing, she’d wake up just smiling. She was always a happy child. She loved her family very much, she loved her animals, she lover her Tinker and her Tilly her Ho Ho and her Pay Pay. They were the best of friends, in fact Tilly and Tinker still look for Caylee, even today. Caylee’s favorite pastimes were coloring, reading stories, finger painting, having a tea party. At her tea party she’d have Elmo, Mr. Pib and her Teddy bear and then Caylee and she’d set the table and pour them all some tea and she’d have a grand old time. She loved playing dress up. George shared w/you she loved to come out and she’d have her beads on and she wouldn’t have one strand she’d have 50 and she had a whole trunk full of beads. She loved Spiderman, she’d come out in her Spiderman socks and her Spiderman t shirt, she loved Cinderella. She loved those crazy glasses w/the furry eyebrows and the big nose. George covered some of the movies, she loved 101 Dalmations, Monsters Inc, Bambi I and II, we’re still not sure to this day which one she liked better, she’d watch them both back and forth 3 and 4 times in the day. She did love her Veggie Tales, her Sponge Bob and her Baby Einstein movies. Caylee loved music, in fact Caylee was so good at keeping a beat that George was seriously considering getting her a drum set for her 4th bday. Caylee loved the water and she was becoming a good swimmer. Her and I used to spend a lot of time together in the pool and I’m going to miss those days. My favorite times, when she would come in on Sunday morning and wake me up and her face would be right in my face — CeCe wake up and she would be right there. I loved sitting in the reclining chair reading the stories w/her. Every night before we’d go to bed she would go outside and look at the stars and want to say good night to the stars and the moon, and if it was a cloudy night we’d say well, the stars have already gone to bed, they’re covered up w/a blanket that God gave them bc they were cold. Hearing her call out my name and tell me how much she loved me, talking to her on the phone. Every night I would drive home from work and she would tell me about her day. Watching her eyes light up when her Jo Jo came into the room, hearing her talk about her Uncle E and Aunt Mawry. Mostly the things I miss is watching the love that she shared w/her mother. It breaks my heart today that Casey is not with us to honor her child whom she loved so very very much. Casey I hope you’re able to hear me today, I love you and I wish I could comfort you right now. I wish I could take away all of your pain and wipe away your tears. I want to thank you for giving me the greatest gift that I have ever received and that is for Caylee Marie. Caylee was so much like you, she got her beauty and her compassion, she had your spirit and she will always love you. She knows that she was loved by her family and that’s all that’s important. Stay strong my child God will keep you safe and Caylee is watching over all of us. God has blessed me w/3 children, 3 beautiful children -I love them all unconditionally. I thank God every time that I’ve had w/my children, I’ve learned to trust in God, I’ve put my faith in his hands and he has given me the courage and the strength to go on. Its all about hope its all about faith, its all about believing and obeying in our God. There’s so much suffering in our world these days and it seems like there is very little hope. But I believe that Caylee’s purpose was to teach us about having hope. I remember the first wkd right after we reported Caylee missing we got a call about a little girl that was found, she was found in W Virginia and there was hopes that this might be Caylee, but I remember them telling us not to keep our hopes too high. We did find out later that it wasn’t Caylee but we weren’t upset were we? (George says no.) We were actually relieved bc we knew that the efforts of looking for Caylee that another child was reunited w/their family and their heartache was over. There were many days and weeks and months that hope was all we had, we never gave that up. We realized that hope was everything, it kept us getting up every morning and living another day. It has led us to many new friends and has reunited us w/many old friends. Hope is what we need more of, its what we need more of to make this world a better place. With hope we can wipe out negativity, w/hope we can concentrate on our faith. Faith is why I stand before you today w/a smile. I would never have been able to endure the pain and suffering that I have felt the last 7 months w/out my faith. Faith is why I’ve asked you all here today to share our love for Caylee Marie. I have faith that when you leave this church that today your hearts will be filled w/love and your minds will be open to giving of yourself to your lord and to your fellow man. Caylee Marie has taught some to love a child whom they’ve never met. Caylee Marie had brought thousands of strangers from all religious backgrounds together in one church to pray, how great is that? It shouldn’t take the death of a child to love our God and our fellow man. Think about it. Go our and make a difference in someone elses lives, do something positive. Watch it grow into something big. Let’s stop the negativity and the speculation. Let’s stand up for our right to live in a world filled w/hope and faith and love. Remember God loves all his children unconditionally."

no objective nor subjective times noted.
First subject introduced: "I" Cindy battling cold.
"Some of you know that I’ve been battling a cold the last few weeks so I hope I get through this."
The first part of a statement is important. We view where a subject starts and what the subject brings forward first. Here, Cindy begins with herself.
Criticism of the Memorial seemed to center around two subjects; one was Lee Anthony's "C-M-A" reference, which we will view in a separate analysis; and that many commentators felt that this was not a memorial to Caylee Anthony, but to Cindy, herself. Reports stated that she had written and directed it all. In fact, when I went to post this, I noticed that I had written "Cindy Anthony Memorial Speech" but decided to leave the error, as it shows my own opinion leaking from my writing.
In an open statements, (as it is sometimes done in therapy) we take careful note of the order in which subjects are introduced.
1. Who is the first person mentioned in the statement?
2. What is the order of people introduced in statements?
3. Who is referenced in terms of frequency, in an open statement? Since it is a memorial, or remembrance, of Caylee Anthony, the victim, we would expect Caylee to be referenced more than anyone else.
Pronouns are, as many of you have learned, immediately circled, as they indicate ownership, possession, etc.
Cindy begins the speech with herself and her current health condition. She says "as some of you know" referencing those (in a large audience) who know her, Cindy, intimately enough to know she has a cold.
"I’m armed-I’ve been armed for months w/my trinkets my bracelets my Caylee bracelets"
Her next sentence is a reference to what she, Cindy, wears on her wrists; Caylee bracelets. she uses the word "armed", which means to be ready for combat.
NOTE: "armed" is a term regarding combat. Statement Analysis looks at the words used, and not any facial expression that may accompany it. It is the belief that the brain tells the tongue, in less than a micro second, what word to choose.
The use of "armed" suggests that Cindy feels that she is in a state of combat; perhaps threatened. We know that those who expressed contrary opinions to her were on a list that was barred from the memorial service, and it was reported that this list was finalized by Cindy, working through the private investigator. With "armed" we would expect to see combative elements in the speech.
"Caylee I love you, missing children — I like jewelry but its getting ridiculous, my arm’s getting heavier and heavier but it brings me peace."
We have the first reference to Caylee, but then to "missing children". We don't know if the "I love you" is to Caylee or to "missing children, but Cindy immediately returns to Cindy, "I like jewelry" and says that her arm is getting heavier but that "it brings me peace.".
the word "but" is always important as it means: note what follows as the most important part of the sentence.
"I love you but..."
"I want to hire you but..."
For the subject, we have love expressed, but the import is upon the peace that Cindy gets from her jewelry.
The noting of "missing children" may be in reference to Cindy's long reporting that Caylee was "missing" in spite of her early statement to the press when Tim Miller of Texas Equasearch was denied information by the Anthony family when he sought assistance to locate her when Cindy said, "George and I don't believe Caylee's in the woods or anything". Caylee's body was found in the woods less than a 1/2 mile from the Anthony home. This is an early indication that Cindy knew where Caylee's body was and that she was not "missing" if by "missing" it is meant "whereabouts unknown."
"I remember the day that Casey came to me to tell me the news that I would be a grand mother as though it was yesterday. I remember her beauty and her radiance as she spoke. My immediate reaction was of total peace and joy. I knew that our lives would be blessed but I never realized just how blessed until the day that Caylee Marie was born. "
This statement infuriated the public as the investigation had already shown that Cindy denied that Casey was even pregnant and that the day was not a happy and joyful day. In hindsight, we know that Cindy has lied here, but will continue the analysis.
Cindy recalls the day that she, Cindy, would be a grandmother. I have no doubt that Cindy remembers this day well, and is not being deceptive. She said that Casey "came" to tell her, which would indicate that Casey was living elsewhere.
Notice that Casey did not come to tell her that she, Casey, was pregnant, but that Cindy would be a grandmother. The focus and weight is Cindy, not Casey.
"I remember her beauty and radiance": this focus is upon Casey. Casey had "beauty" and she had "radiance". We know from the investigation that Casey had spoken about abortion and Cindy refused. "...as she spoke" is added. Extra words that are unnecessary give us more information. We know that Casey came to "tell" Cindy.
"said, says" are different than "tell, told".
Had Cindy said, "Casey came and said she was pregnant" it would appear informative.
Told and Tell are sometimes indicators of an argument, or imperative language.
"as she spoke" shows that this conversation itself was sensitive and "tell" shows us that this may have been an argument.
"My immediate reaction was of total peace and joy."
The shortest sentence is the best sentence. Extra words give us information.
"My reaction was peace and joy" is plainly spoken.
"immediate" indicates that there was a reaction afterwards.
"total" is a qualifinig word that is not necessary. She likely had other emotions than "peace and joy". The extra word tells that this is an attempt to persuade rather than state. Cindy likely did not have peace and joy as stated and the extra words tell us that we may be looking at deception. (Hindsight indicates that we know this to be a volatile argument that led to Casey causing a riff between Cindy and George and a split in the marriage)
"I knew that our lives would be blessed but I never realized just how blessed until the day that Caylee Marie was born. "
These are unusual words given the circumstances. Why would "blessings" in "our lives" be used to describe a murder? We know that Casey caused George Anthony and Cindy Anthony to split up and there was nothing but strife and tension in the home. George reported that he could not longer take it. Then, after Caylee was born, we learned that the first 2 1/2 years of Caylee's life were a source of great stress in the home, as Casey went from party to party, lying about not only her whereabouts, but the whereabouts of the child. We learn that Casey pretended to have a job, stole from family and friends, and that George complained that he and Cindy had to pay for everything for Caylee.
In fact, I would conclude that nothing in their lives appeared to be "blessed". The hyperbole Cindy uses speaks of deception. In a household of such strife, alnog with possible financial difficulties, it didn't appear to be a very good time in life at all.
The moment I saw Caylee Marie
Notice the pronoun "I" as central. The theme of the speech is Cindy, and continues to be so. Cindy uses the word "moment". We learned later why this moment was so sensitive: the nurse placed Caylee in Cindy's arms, rather than in Casey's arms, and it was a point of contention until Caylee was murdered.
"and the instant she was placed in my arms, she stole my heart forever."
Cindy was "armed" for combat, now Caylee is placed in her "arms".
My heart just melted.
"my heart" is Cindy Anthony's heart.
I knew from then on that her heart was strong and that she would be a very special child.
Cindy knew that Caylee's heart was "strong" and that Caylee would not only be "special" but "very special". Indeed. Caylee, through her murder, has touched hundreds of thousands of people from her demise. Caylee impacted parents who's protective capacities were enraged at the lack of protection afforded Caylee by her family.
Caylee was a perfect baby.
Past tense proper use.
"I remember one day when I came to pick her up from Holly’s house, Holly was telling me about an outing she had at Publix and how Holly said people just kept coming up to her and wondering what was going on because Caylee was there squealing and laughing and carrying on and Caylee had a voice, even when she was a baby, she had a voice"
We have Cindy's memory, and the first introduction of a name, which is to be noted. "Holly" is named, but not identified. This would indicate a poor relationship. Holly was "telling" (not said), which may indicate jealousy on the part of Cindy, but when Holly reported what others said, Cindy says "Holly said" not "Holly told" or "Holly telling". This shows less emotion. In open statements, as in society, politeness is the same.
"My boss, Mr. Public, said I need to be in work early." The proper introduction says that this person has a good relationship with the boss, even though the subject of lateness may be sensitive.
"The boss told me I need to be in work early" shows a harsher tone, perhaps an argument, and that the worker does not have a good relationship with the boss.
Holly is not properly socially introduced which is indicative of either that everyone in the audience knows her, so no introduction is needed, or that this is not a person with whom Cindy Anthony has a good relationship with.
Notice "voice" is repeated twice. This is unusual. A child can talk or cry, and therefore has a "voice". Why would Cindy repeat this twice?
We know that in Cindy's mind, Caylee having a voice is important. We know that Caylee cannot speak now, nor could she when this memorial was held. The voice of Caylee cannot be heard, except through those who call for justice for Caylee.
Perhaps it is important to Cindy that Caylee have a "voice" because when she was stuffed into the trunk of Casey's car with duct tape covering her mouth, she had no voice. Casey made sure that Caylee was silenced and now it is up to Cindy give Caylee her voice back.
I remember Lee saying, mom- she’s so loud!
This is Cindy's memory: "I remember..."
No social introduction of Lee Anthony as the Uncle of Caylee.
"She wouldn’t wake up crying she’d wake up laughing. She’d wake up cooing, she’d wake up just smiling. She was always a happy child. "
Words that any parent find difficult to believe. Cindy stated that she was a "perfect" child, and perhaps, this is what a "perfect" child looks like to Cindy; one who doesn't wake up crying, but coo's, smiles and was happy. "always" happy, extra word.
She loved her family very much, she loved her animals, she loved her Tinker and her Tilly her Ho Ho and her Pay Pay. They were the best of friends, in fact Tilly and Tinker still look for Caylee, even today.
"she loved: 1. family 2. animals (I assume Tinker and Tilly were pets)
Cindy is attempting to paint a portrait of Caylee. We would expect to hear that a deceased child loved her mommy and daddy, but not here. Only "family" which is not defined, with any names. Grandparents? We are not told. But with pets, in contrast, we are told specifically the names of the pets. If these are pets in the Cindy Anthony household, I suspect that the pets are very important to her.
Caylee’s favorite pastimes were coloring, reading stories, finger painting, having a tea party. At her tea party she’d have Elmo, Mr. Pib and her Teddy bear and then Caylee and she’d set the table and pour them all some tea and she’d have a grand old time.
We have the order of what Caylee loved doing. We also have the introduction of more names. We first Holly, then Lee. Then we had what I assume to be pets. Next we have fictional characters, attending a tea party.
Notice reading stories is number one. A child cannot do this alone, normally, and would need someone to read to her. The tea party appeared to have toy or fictional guests, but no humans.
NOTE: if it is significant enough to enter the subject's language, we are to take note. I do consider it noteworthy that no specific family names, including aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc, are used, but the child's toys, pets, or imaginary friends' names are given. This may be a bit of a light shining into Caylee's world.
As I have written before, Caylee was a product of Neglect.
Most people I have spoken to have gone to far greater lengths to learn about the kennel their pet is staying at than Cindy Anthony did to learn about the "nanny" that not only babysat for Caylee, but allegedly was having her grandchild spend sleepover nights, even up to a week at a time, while Casey was at "work". We know that some children play alone, others thrive from adult interaction, and some children, sadly, are "babysat" by the television in our society.
Caylee appeared to be more of a novelty, as her name suggests, than a child to be loved, nurtured and protected. When a cat gleans more protective capacities from a caretaker than a child, something is very wrong. This insight into Caylee's world is important in understanding her life, and perhaps, how and why she died.
"She loved playing dress up. She did love her Veggie Tales, her Sponge Bob and her Baby Einstein movies."
No social introduction to George, as he is already known to the audience and to many Americans across the country. "Dress up" and George are in the same context. We know that Casey has accused her father, George, of sexual molestation. That "dress up" and George are so close together might not indicate anything, in light of the allegation, it is noted.
Notice also the detail used. Vagueness is a sign of deception, but so is an over abundance of detail, as it is an attempt to persuade, not report. When Casey gave her description of Zanny the Nanny, her overuse of detail red-flagged the account as deceptive. Much information is given about what Caylee watched on television. Notice on the list "101 Dalmations" is first (pointing, perhaps, to Caylee's love of pets) but last is "Eistein"; TV's educational aspect.
"Caylee loved music, in fact Caylee was so good at keeping a beat that George was seriously considering getting her a drum set for her 4th bday. "
The shortest sentence is best. "George was considering" versus "George was seriously considering"; perhaps an indication of some disagreement. George complained about paying for baby items.
"Caylee loved the water and she was becoming a good swimmer. "
The emphasis here is on Caylee and her love of the water. There was talk, early on, that Caylee may have died by accidental or neglectful drowning, but at that time, Cindy insisted that her pool ladder was up. In any statement, we note the use of water, bathing, showering, handwashing. The fact that Caylee was a good swimmer is important to Cindy.
Her and I used to spend a lot of time together in the pool and I’m going to miss those days.
"her and I" has Caylee first. Memory associated with the pool is strong, and is Caylee centered. This was probably something that Cindy enjoyed alone with Caylee, in good moments.
My favorite times, when she would come in on Sunday morning and wake me up and her face would be right in my face — CeCe wake up and she would be right there.
We note another introduction of a name, "CeCe" which appears to be a reference to Cindy herself, though others reported that Cindy had Caylee call her "Mama", which was a source of contention in the home.
"I loved sitting in the reclining chair reading the stories w/her. Every night before we’d go to bed she would go outside and look at the stars and want to say good night to the stars and the moon, and if it was a cloudy night we’d say well, the stars have already gone to bed, they’re covered up w/a blanket that God gave them bc they were cold."
Sitting, seated, standing, stand, stood are all to be noted in an open statement and oftentimes refer to tense moments. The context here does not suggest tension, though putting a toddler to bed can be challenging. Cindy then gives a detailed account of what appears to be a bed time ritual: reading on the reclining chair (recling chair suggests ease) and then, before bed going outside, etc. There is also snack, toileting, brushing teeth, etc, involved in a toddler going to sleep. The extra details may suggest that Caylee was not an easy child to put to sleep, just as a "perfect" child, who wakes up happy and is happy all the time suggests that Caylee was not "perfect" but more normal, as babies wake up crying for food, crying for mama, crying for many reasons. Cindy paints a false picture of reality. This is not a common form of deception.
The most common form of deception is editing; leaving out information. Casey Anthony invented reality (best seen when she had the detectives walk through the hallway of Universal on their way to her "office"). Although in Cindy's case, the details about Caylee may appear minor, if deceptive, they are "inventive" of reality and may be where Casey learned to lie.
If we were to draw a profile of Casey Anthony based solely upon what Cindy gave law enforcement we could conclude:
helpful to all
counselor
financial planner
mother of the year
best friend to all
gardener
hard working
moral
honest
Yet, the police tell us that she was a lying, thieving murderess. So it is important to examine what Cindy says, whether it is a small subject or a larger one.
"Hearing her call out my name and tell me how much she loved me, talking to her on the phone. "
This strongly shows the emphasis is upon Cindy herself; as recipient of the child's love and even the child's phone call.
note "talking" rather than "speaking" may further suggest that tension is associated in phone calls with Cindy and Caylee; perhaps a reference to when Cindy demanded to Casey that she take her, Cindy, to Caylee, but then told Casey that she wanted to talk to Caylee on the phone. Casey refused and eventually said "she has been taken" to her mother. We also learned that prior to this, there was an "investigation" conducted by Lee, at the direction of his mother, to find Casey and Caylee. Cindy reported that she text'd and called Casey often, wanting to talk to her about Caylee, but Casey would not return calls and lied about her whereabouts.
"Every night I would drive home from work and she would tell me about her day."
This contradicts the many reports that Caylee was at the Nannys.
"Watching her eyes light up when her Jo Jo came into the room, hearing her talk about her Uncle E and Aunt Mawry."
Introduction of what we assume to be George, Lee and Mallory. Use of terms is casual and suggests endearment.
" Mostly the things I miss is watching the love that she shared with her mother."
This is the first introduction by Cindy of the subject of Caylee's parentage. Cindy does not use Casey's name, but calls Casey "her mother". This indicates a slight on the part of Cindy against her daughter. Casey is not a person, but "her mother". Although this may be an attempt to influence the public in a positive way about Casey Anthony, it reveals disdain.
"It breaks my heart today that Casey is not with us to honor her child whom she loved so very very much. "
This introduce's Casey by name and places her "not with us".
Note the use of "child" indicates abuse. When someone is concerned or has any dealings with abuse, the word "child" enters the language. This is why we say "child abuse" and not "kid abuse". Why would Casey "honor" her child? We have extra words that help us:
"child" associated with risk, danger, abuse, etc.
"whom she loved so very very much" is a strong indicator of deception.
Remember our analysis of Ronald Cummings? Here is the exaggerated version:
Geraldo: Did you hit your pregnant woman?
Ronald: Never, ever, ever, did I ever hit any woman in my life.
Geraldo: Do you work for the police; are you a narc?
Ronald: I do not work for the police. I am not a narc.
This indicates a very violent person with women, but one who is not a narc, nor works for the police. His 2nd answer is easy and does not need the buttressing as the lie does.
Cindy Anthony doubles the emphasis; meaning this is a point of high sensitivity. She knows that Casey did not love the person at risk, Caylee, so much so, that Cindy threatened to take custody away from Casey.
"Casey I hope you’re able to hear me today, I love you and I wish I could comfort you right now. I wish I could take away all of your pain and wipe away your tears. "
At this point, we learned that Casey was infuriated that Cindy attempted to gain an exclusive use of the name of Caylee in order to profit from it, and was no longer visting with her parents. 6 uses of "I", indicates stress. Cindy, no doubt, is stressed that Casey is in prison. She wanted Casey to "honor" Caylee.
"I want to thank you for giving me the greatest gift that I have ever received and that is for Caylee Marie. "
This may be an insult to Casey by her mother. When Casey used sarcastic language in jail, "I just saw your cameo, mom!", Cindy did not miss a beat to torment her daughter and answered, "Which one, dear?" Although we do not analyze the tone, the words are difficult to view without the context of knowing that Casey, Lee, and George all said that Casey felt that Cindy stole Caylee from her, beginning on the day of the birth, and competed with Casey for Caylee's affections. Given that Cindy had money from working and Casey did not, Cindy would have a "leg up" on the competition in terms of buying Caylee's love. This may explain why Casey stole money from her grandparents just to pay for Caylee's birthday party.
The center of this sentence is Cindy;not Casey and not Caylee. Cindy stated that Casey gave this gift to her, Cindy, rather than the gift of life to Caylee. When she says "that is for Caylee Marie" she does not say the gift IS Caylee Marie but that the gift is that SHE, Cindy, has Caylee. Is Cindy, herself, a gift to Caylee?
"Caylee was so much like you, she got her beauty and her compassion, she had your spirit and she will always love you. "
We now begin to understand why Cindy was "armed" for combat. This is a bold declaration of war upon anyone who suggests otherwise: Cindy says that Caylee received Casey's beauty and her "compassion". This is a very strange word in light of the accusations that Cindy herself made against Casey about being an unfit mother, and that Cindy knew that Casey didn't report her "missing" for 31 days, and that Casey told lies about whereabouts, work, and so much else.
She knew that Casey had been indicted for the murder of Caylee Marie Anthony.
If Casey would be described as anything, it would not be "compassionate".
Even "the wicked know how to bestow good gifts upon their children"; meaning that even those who are not good parents, or mean spirited people, or neglectful people still can show kindness to a 2 1/2 year old. It is the absence of compassion that would cause a tiny child to have her life taken from her, in an up close and cruel manner. Cindy is going to combat.
"She knows that she was loved by her family and that’s all that’s important."
Cindy seeks reduction. The only thing important is that she was loved by her family. Notice the absence of two names: Caylee and the specifics of the family. She does not say, "she knows she was loved by her mother" or by Casey. Cindy is righfully in the past tense.
"that's all that is important" offered in an open statement tells us that there are other things that are important.
"Stay strong my child God will keep you safe and Caylee is watching over all of us."
Cindy addresses Casey as "my child" showing both ownership "my" and risk "child". Casey at this time was 22 years old. Casey has accused her mother of not protecting her from sexual abuse, which may be raised later as one of the motives of the murder.
"God has blessed me w/3 children, 3 beautiful children -I love them all unconditionally. "
As a parent, Cindy has a need to make sure that it is known that she loves "all" of her children; suggesting that she may not love "all" as this would be regarded as an unnecessary statement by most parents, unless they have been accused of not loving one or more of them. Did Casey tell her mother, during the bail time, that she did this because Cindy didn't protect her from abuse and she did this to save Caylee from abuse? We don't know but have some hints from Casey's own letters.
"unconditionally" is an extra word giving us extra information. This word is used when a child has done something that may "condition" a parent's love.
Cindy directs God's blessing towards herself; as chosen for this blessing. Not many people would consider themselves blessed to have raised someone who not only stole, lie and murdered, but murdered their own grandchild. Cindy is in combat and it is against public opinion.
"I thank God every time that I’ve had w/my children, I’ve learned to trust in God, I’ve put my faith in his hands and he has given me the courage and the strength to go on."
Cindy speaks of her religious belief, which does not include the teaching to speak the truth. She continues to be self centering in her statement in what was thought to be a rememberance of a deceased child.
"Its all about hope its all about faith, its all about believing and obeying in our God. "
"obeying" is interesting given the commandments against murder, lying, and stealing. The same faith (of the church where this memorial was held) would also teach that when a life is taken, the killer forfeits his or her own life as payment. In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul references the death penalty with the argument that if he, himself, had done something worthy of death, he would submit to the death penalty.
Cindy projects herself through the speech.
"There’s so much suffering in our world these days and it seems like there is very little hope. "
In Cindy's world, the suffering is extreme, and I have no doubt that she has little hope that Casey will go free. It must be unbearable to be in her shoes. I don't wish it upon anyone. This does not excuse lying, or being party to the crime afterwards (cleaning the car, false reporting, deliberately giving the wrong evidence to the FBI, lying under oath, etc)
"But I believe that Caylee’s purpose was to teach us about having hope."
I don't know how a 2 1/2 year old dead child can teach hope but this is Cindy's belief.
"I remember the first weekend right after we reported Caylee missing we got a call about a little girl that was found, she was found in W Virginia and there was hopes that this might be Caylee, but I remember them telling us not to keep our hopes too high."
As evidenced by the initial decomposition odor, as well as Cindy's own statements, she knew Caylee was dead before she even called 911. This is an attempt to justify the countless thousands of dollars that Cindy caused law enforcement to spend in running after her "Caylee sightings", not to mention the emotional toll her lies cost the American public who were holding out hope.
Notice the found child is a "little girl" and not a "child". She is no longer at risk now that she is found. Consistent language used.
"and there was hope this might be Caylee" is passive language. Cindy does not say, "and I had hope...".
"We did find out later that it wasn’t Caylee but we weren’t upset were we? (George says no)
b
" We were actually relieved because we knew that the efforts of looking for Caylee that another child was reunited w/their family and their heartache was over. "
"we" reduces committment, therefore, we cannot trust the text. Cindy is justifying the search for Caylee in that, somehow, searching for one child led to the finding of another.
"There were many days and weeks and months that hope was all we had, we never gave that up. We realized that hope was everything, it kept us getting up every morning and living another day."
The shift is now from singular early in the speech, to plural, comletely. While talking about her relationship with Caylee, she was first person singular, but when talking about Caylee searches, she is plural, reducing committment. Remember that she had been on television repeatedly with her latest "sightings" which is what grabbed the heart of America, but also put her under scrutiny.
It has led us to many new friends and has reunited us with many old friends. Hope is what we need more of, its what we need more of to make this world a better place.
She conintues to sermonize about "hope". "Hope" is an anticipation which looks forward. Since Cindy is repeatly speaking of anticipating a good ending for that which is yet to come, what is she driving at? She now declares that the world will be better if we anticipate something to turn out well. What should "we" anticipate positively for the future?
"With hope we can wipe out negativity, w/hope we can concentrate on our faith. "
We now get a glimpse into what Cindy is talking about. It is hope that is needed to wipe out "negativity". What "negativity" is she referring to? The stock market? The Florida Panthers? Missing children? The loss of Caylee?
"Faith is why I stand before you today with a smile. "
Central to all of this is Cindy, herself, back to "I" and not "we", smiling. Why would a grandmother who has lost her only grandchild, and with her daughter indicted on murder, smile in public (which was televised for the nation)?
"I would never have been able to endure the pain and suffering that I have felt the last 7 months without my faith. Faith is why I’ve asked you all here today to share our love for Caylee Marie. I have faith that when you leave this church that today your hearts will be filled w/love"
Central, again, is the "I" in Cindy's statements. "We" is no longer present except in reference to loving Caylee.
"and your minds will be open"
Why would the audience need to have an open mind? The audience gathered to remember a 2 1/2 year old deceased female child. Cindy's persuasion is, in her thinking, a combat, as she is up against a great deal of negative media coverage. Does negative media coverage mean biased? Negative coverage refers to the death of a child, and not a "positive" coverage of a team, for instance, winning the big game.
" to giving of yourself to your Lord and to your fellow man. Caylee Marie has taught some to love a child whom they’ve never met. "
But it wasn't enough to make Casey love Caylee enough to breathe oxygen, something that we are created to crave by instinct to stay alive. When oxygen is deprived, the body and mind react in panic.
"Caylee Marie had brought thousands of strangers from all religious backgrounds together in one church to pray, how great is that? "
not, how great is "this". This means close, that means distance. The subject of prayer is close to Cindy, nor is it her objective.
"It shouldn’t take the death of a child to love our God and our fellow man."
It doesn't.
Think about it. Go out and make a difference in someone elses lives, do something positive. Watch it grow into something big. Let’s stop the negativity and the speculation. Let’s stand up for our right to live in a world filled w/hope and faith and love. Remember God loves all his children unconditionally."
Cindy was under tremendous pressure, some self inflicted, when she orchestrated the memorial service. Casey, as mother, had demanded certain burial plans, but the mother of Casey overruled her. Protesters had been involved in this from the beginning. Why?
Cindy was up against a mountain of evidence that pointed to her daughter's guilt.
Cindy is seen on video deliberatley going outside to confront protestors.
Cindy is seen on video in her Zanaida deposition lunging forward at the camera, wild eyed, gum smacking (see Dr. Lillian Glass's full description of Cindy's body language that caused Attorney Morgan to describe her as a "rabid doberman".)
Cindy is doing what Cindy had been doing on camera: fighting the "negativity" which was created by Casey when she allegedly took Caylee's life, and then, as photos have shown, went out about her way to get a tattoo to celebrate her new life, and party.
This is what enraged people and is what the defense is so desperatly trying to get removed from evidence: the pictures that show the face of utter callousness.
Cindy's speech was front and center Cindy Anthony. She is in combat. She is attempting to influence potential jurors, just as she did when she reported "live sightings" when she knew Caylee was deceased.
It would only take one juror to wonder, "what if Caylee is alive?" that could be the reasonable doubt that saves Casey. Cindy was willing not only to lie to save Casey, but Cindy was, and is, willing to commit murder.
How?
By suggesting to police that the "Zanny" who kidnapped and killed Caylee was Jesse Grund, or a hard to find Puerto Rican woman, or anyone else. Knowing that the killer could potentially face the death penalty, Cindy was willing to be party to murder.
This speech shows one thing clearly:
Like mother, like daughter.
