Junette Page Jobin, 58, of New Westminster faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Patricia Rose Pelletier.
Pelletier was found dead in her home in the 3200-block East 51st Avenue in south Vancouver after concerned family members phoned 911 on April 19.
"The cause of death was not readily apparent, but the investigation confirmed it was a homicide," said Vancouver police spokesman Const. Lindsey Houghton at a press conference Saturday.
He said Pelletier is the widow of former Vancouver police Const. Kenneth Pelletier.
Pelletier's murder is the city's fourth homicide of 2010. That compares with 13 at this time last year and 10 in 2008, said Houghton.
