Tampa police: Abused toddler in critical condition
TAMPA - A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition today after suffering sickening abuse that left her with a severed pancreas, broken ribs and burn and bite marks, police said.

Two people who were caring for the child were arrested late Friday, police said: Isidro Rosario, 26, of 2450 E. Hillsborough Ave., No. 820, is being held on a child neglect charge; and Carolina Pena, 22, of the same address, is being held on charges of aggravated child abuse and child neglect.

Police said the toddler was taken to a health clinic Friday afternoon for treatment of a swollen abdomen. She was immediately transferred to Tampa General Hospital, where an emergency room physician notified investigators of possible child abuse.

A blow to the abdomen had severed the girl's pancreas, and she had two fractured ribs, police said. There was a fork-shaped burn mark on her right knee, bite marks on her buttocks and thigh, and scratches on her neck.

The child underwent surgery at TGH, where she is in intensive care, Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.

So baby girls rib injuries were 2 weeks old. My guess is the abuse escalated as baby cried in pain over her inflicted injuries. It appears the "mother" abused baby girl as the boyfriend did nothing to stop it or report it. Not sure if he was part of the abuse if not, this is a switch from mother/boyfriend abuse scenario.

Latest Update On The Baby

According to arrest affidavits and jail records, Rosario said the toddler was left in his mother's car while he went to work as a welder at a shipyard.
He said that on April 30, he saw that the child had a busted lip, and that Pena told him the girl fell from a play set, affidavits say. Before then, he told investigators, he saw a burn mark on the girl's knee.
Then, on Monday of this past week, he said, he noticed the girl's belly was noticeably distended. Then, on Tuesday or Wednesday, he saw several bite marks, the affidavits say.
Doctors determined the girl's ribs were fractured at least two weeks ago, the affidavits say. The child underwent surgery at TGH, where she is in intensive care.
Forensic analysts are expected to examine the bite marks.
Rosario and Penalive at the Meridian Pointe apartment complex at 2450 E. Hillsborough Ave.
Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said two other children also were living in the apartment.
Pena would not give an explanation as to how her daughter was injured, Davis said.
Neighbors at Meridian Pointe said they don't know Rosario and Pena very well because the couple moved in just a couple of weeks ago

Speaking as a former employee and friend/relative to current hospital employees, we do wish that we had the luxury to go off on those who had abused or neglected their kids. Unfortunately, we would lose our jobs, go to jail, and/or most likely get sued by the families of the abusers. As much as they need a good beatdown, the best we can do is report them to the authorities and hope that they get a long stretch in jail with regular visits with the general population.

And believe me, it is very, VERY difficult to witness the damage done by abuse and neglect and still maintain a professional demeanor.

TAMPA, FL - A Tampa mother and another man charged in a case of severe child abuse involving the woman's 2-year-old daughter went before a judge Sunday morning.

He was supposed to set their bonds, however Barber recused himself, saying it would not be fair to rule on their bonds as he signed a search warrant for the couple's apartment on Hillsborough Avenue.

Hmm. Wondering if she has a picture of the 2 yo on her ms. These children both Pena's. One seems too old for 2yo the other too young, only an infant. Pictures were posted last month. Could be the older child who is 2 going on 3...dunno.

The little girl underwent surgery and and remains in critical but stable condition.

I hope baby girl makes it though and heals completely.

No family members were around Monday to watch.
Her parents were still in jail and ordered by a judge to have no contact with her upon their release. Carolina Pena, 22, is accused of aggravated child abuse and child neglect, and Isidro Rosario, 26, is accused of child neglect and failing to report abuse.
In court Monday, Circuit Judge Walter Heinrich said Rosario could also, at some point, be charged as a principal in the abuse.

I prefer they drop the charges over taking a case to trial without enough evidence. At least now they can re-file charges if enough evidence is gathered. If they tried the case and they were found innocent, there would not be a damn thing that could be done.

Hopefully, one of these shitheads will get pissed off at the other and reveal what truly happened. And I hope DCF keeps the child for a long long time.

I think the cops are doing the right thing by waiting and gathering more evidence and maybe witnesses to "prior bad acts". I wouldn't want the two cock-gobblers to walk free because of a weak case that would squeeze them thru the door of reasonable doubt. Personally, I think I could get a confession.
