Michael Casey & Susan Rae Basso charged with "violent" child abuse

A man and woman from Maryville are charged with violent child abuse and neglect.

Investigators say Michael John Casey, 28, and Susan Rae Basso, 26, both of Stonecrest Drive in Maryville were arrested last night.

According to the incident report filed with the Blount County Sheriff's Department, the officer went to the home after a report of child abuse. The officer could see bruises on her arms, legs, and back. She also had a cut on her head.

Deputies said they found empty prescription bottles and loose prescriptions that were taken into evidence.

A worker with the state Department of Children's Services took custody of the child.

Casey is being held on bonds totaling $51,000. He's due in court on May 14 and May 20.

Basso is being held on a $50,000 bond. She's due in court on May 14.
