Authorities in Rushville, Illinois are busy investigating a murder. RUSHVILLE, ILL. -- We told you on KHQA's news at five that this Beardstown man, Christopher Curry was beaten to death early Friday morning. This is his high school picture. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1994. Investigators believe Curry died from massive head trauma. I spoke with one of the victims, who took me inside the murder scene. I also got reactions from his family and friends.
It all started here at this home behind me early Friday morning at 616 North Congress in Rushville. I spoke with Amy Crenshaw, one of the victims. She didn't want to go on camera, but she did tell me that former boyfriend Jeff Crabtree broke into her house and he may have gotten in through this kitchen window. You can see the screen laying against the house. She says she doesn't know why Jeff would do something like this but he does have a violent history.

"Tumultuous, on again, off again lots of fighting, just not a good relationship," said Amy's sister Cathy Phillips.

Phillips told me Chris had come over to Amy's home for the night......but that they were just friends. Phillips says Amy's ex-boyfriend may have have taken things the wrong way.

"Jealousy, that's all I can imagine. He didn't want to see her with anyone else," Phillips says.

Amy told me, when Crabtree got inside, he hit her on the head with a flash light, cracking her head open. Then he beat Curry over the head more than 20 times with what appeared to be a mag-lite...that's a large flashlight.

As you can imagine friends and family are deeply saddened by this tragedy. No one was willing to comment on camera, but they did tell me that, although, Christopher Curry had his run in with the law a few years back, he was getting his life back on track and he will be missed.

"He had a good job, he was really on the road to getting his life turned around, it's just very tragic," said Phillips.

The incident is still under investigation. Crabtree could face charges for murder, aggravated battery and home invasion. Curry's body was taken to a Springfield hospital for an autopsy. There's no word on funeral arrangements.
