With the stories that seem to keep coming up on familicide, thought this charge is laughable.
Lets get that message out there, try to kill you entire family and it will only get you 4 years!
So judge weighs it out because, aw, he was a good guy before trying to kill his entire family, so the 4 years makes it a sound judgment.OSHKOSH, Wis.(AP) — A man who tried to kill his wife and two children in Winnebago County has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Prosecutors say Ryan Michalkiewicz (MIK'-el-kah-vich) was upset over marriage troubles and put his unconscious wife and their two children in a running van and closed the garage door.
He was earlier convicted of attempted homicide and recklessly endangering safety for the Dec. 2 incident in Oshkosh.
Michalkiewicz told the judge Thursday that it will be on his conscience for the rest of his life.
Winnebago County Judge William Carver had to weigh two starkly different portraits of Ryan Michalkiewicz when he decided the Town of Menasha man's fate Thursday.
Defense attorney Jeff Oswald said Michalkiewicz was a proud homeowner and hard worker who never had a previous run-in with the law.
Assistant. Dist. Atty. Scott Ceman said Michalkiewicz was an angry and impulsive man who fully intended to kill his estranged wife in a Dec. 2 attack that almost culminated with Michalkiewicz killing himself and the couple's children...

Carver sentenced Michalkiewicz to four years in prison on counts of attempted first- degree intentional homicide and two counts second-degree reckless endangerment. He will spend six years on extended supervision once his prison term is complete.
Michalkiewicz, 34, erupted in a rage Dec. 2 at the couple's Wasilla Lane home after reading text messages on her cell phone sent by another man. She had moved out of the home recently and was planning a divorce, but was home that night to take care of the children and some household chores.
Michalkiewicz choked his wife (video says beat too), into unconsciousness, moved her to a van in the garage, and then brought the couple's children, 7 and 5 years old into the van too. He started the van in an attempt to kill everyone., too.

His wife, 30, declined to address the court Thursday. Carver, though, referenced a statement she made to the author of a pre-sentence report. She feared, it said, that Michalkiewicz would "finish what he started" on Dec. 2 when he was free.
....The woman eventually awoke and persuaded Michalkiewicz to allow her back in the home, and police arrived not long after, acting on a tip from an unnamed caller that she might be in jeopardy.OK, so we are all are capable of a moment of rage that might blind one from sensible thinking and action, but lordy, he might have succeeded in killing his entire family, including children that had nothing to do with the adult bs going on!Michalkiewicz made a lengthy statement to the court in which he apologized to his wife, his 7- and 5-year-old children, the rest of his family and the community.
He said his wife was his first love, but he understands their life together is over. He said he recognized the vital role she plays as a mother, and told her she didn't have to live in fear of him.
He says those feelings are long gone, and not a threat to his family, goes on to apologize. Maybe, but I sure as hell wouldn't trust him. And those poor children how do you get over dad trying to kill them and mom for that matter? If it hadn't been for that call tipping off the police he might have succeeded in killing them all, except himself, of course. You know it usually ends with the suicide attempt being feeble at best.
IMO, he's a threat to family and society if he's capable of this and he showed he is.
