    Ohio Boy Charged With Death Of 3-Year-Old Brother
    COLUMBUS, Ohio—Prosecutors have charged a 13-year-old boy in the fatal shooting of his 3-year-old half brother in eastern Ohio.
    Michael Hulsey will face counts of reckless homicide and possession of drugs in Muskingum County juvenile court.
    He was charged Friday following the death of 3-year-old Shannon Harrop Wednesday after the child was struck by a shotgun blast in the family’s home in the village of Philo.

    WTF was this boy doing with a loaded shotgun in a home unsupervised?

    When will parents learn to keep their weapons under lock and key. My boys can shoot, and clean, and field-strip their weapons with the best of them, but only when I am present and only in a controled situation. Otherwise, the firearms are locked up and I have the only keys. I trust them more than I trust most adults, but I also know kids get stupid sometimes. Therefore I keep the deadly chances out of their reach.

    My sincere condolences to the family. Their going to have to bury one son and watch another go through hell.

    Muskingum County- OH It pains me to read stories like these. So young, yet so full of anger and sadness. A 13 year-old boy is charged with killing his 3 year-old half brother Shannon Harrop in their home. This 13 year -old is also charged with posession of drugs! What is going on in this home? Where were the parents? Shouldn't the parents be held responsible as well?

    It wasn't an accident? If it was, the homicide charge is hardly appropriate.

    My 16 year old cousin fatally shot his 13 year old brother some years back while handing a handgun he found under his father's pillow. No one was charged - my uncle (by marriage - we all hated him) was cited for negligence (it was a ticket if I recall correctly), but the damage it did to that family was immeasurable.

    Michael R. Hulsey Jr. was charged with delinquency counts of reckless homicide and possession of drugs in the death of Shannon M. Harrop Jr.

    The boy died Wednesday after he was struck by a shotgun blast at 1975 Back Run Rd. in Philo, about 60 miles east of Columbus. Family members drove him to a Zanesville hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

    The drug count alleges that Hulsey possessed or used Xanax, a prescription drug used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.

    A Juvenile Court judge ordered Hulsey detained Thursday pending the filing of charges.

    The 13-year-old could face commitment to a Department of Youth Services detention facility if he is found delinquent.

    A firearm specification attached to the reckless homicide count could add up to five years to any sentence. Hulsey is too young to be charged as an adult.
