A Williams man faces criminal charges after police said he crawled through a smashed window at his ex-girlfriend's house and took their 2-year-old daughter.
Ryan M. Zachmeyer, 19, was booked into the Colusa County Jail on suspicion of felony burglary and misdemeanor allegations of depriving a parent of lawful custody or visitation and entering a residential dwelling without permission, Williams police Sgt. Steve Woldanski said Monday.
The child was not hurt, Woldanski said.
Burglary charges are being sought because Zachmeyer reportedly entered the residence with the intent to commit another crime, Woldanski explained.
The incident is not considered a kidnapping because there is no custody agreement in place between Zachmeyer and the girl's mother, Yvette M. Zuniga.
"It looks like he became upset with (Zuniga) for having a new boyfriend and broke into her house and took the child back to his own mother's house," Woldanski said.
Zuniga, 20, reported the incident around 11 a.m. Friday in the 600 block of Waterfowl Way.
Zachmeyer was picked up by police a short time later walking outside on the corner of Vann Street and Butte View Drive, Woldanski said.
He posted a $50,000 bail bond and was released later that same day, jail staff said.
