Ryan Zachmeyer Just Wanted To See His Daughter But He Did It All Wrong

    Police: Man took own child
A Williams man faces criminal charges after police said he crawled through a smashed window at his ex-girlfriend's house and took their 2-year-old daughter.

Ryan M. Zachmeyer, 19, was booked into the Colusa County Jail on suspicion of felony burglary and misdemeanor allegations of depriving a parent of lawful custody or visitation and entering a residential dwelling without permission, Williams police Sgt. Steve Woldanski said Monday.

The child was not hurt, Woldanski said.

Burglary charges are being sought because Zachmeyer reportedly entered the residence with the intent to commit another crime, Woldanski explained.

The incident is not considered a kidnapping because there is no custody agreement in place between Zachmeyer and the girl's mother, Yvette M. Zuniga.

"It looks like he became upset with (Zuniga) for having a new boyfriend and broke into her house and took the child back to his own mother's house," Woldanski said.

Zuniga, 20, reported the incident around 11 a.m. Friday in the 600 block of Waterfowl Way.

Zachmeyer was picked up by police a short time later walking outside on the corner of Vann Street and Butte View Drive, Woldanski said.

He posted a $50,000 bail bond and was released later that same day, jail staff said.

I hate when the kid becomes nothing more than a pawn in parent's bullshit games and tug of war battles.

Zachmeyer and Zuniga? Where are these people from? Those are some strange last names. How are you supposed to pronounce Zuniga anyway? My pronunciation sounds like a racial slur!

Hmm. Why would a guy do it this way? Did he think that since there was no marriage, he had no legal standing as the father?

Question What if ... Only what if ...

I guess I have to play devil's advocate... What if this is some smuck who wants at SEVENTEEN to be a parent... I agree it WAS completely out of line... the way he handled it.. but we are talking about a teenager with emotions and needs. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. How many times did he ask to see his kid... how many times has he given to his child without the benefit of the court... how many SEVENTEEN year olds have 2500 dollars to put up front for a lawyer and 400 an hour???? Groan me... but I am hoping this is the chase

I for one would like to know what time he took the child. I sure hope she didn't roll out of bed at 11:00 and discover her child missing then? If so maybe he was concerned about how responsible she was as well? What he did was not right by any means and even if he didn't have the money for a lawyer he could have taken this to family court without one.

Zoo-ni-ga (emphasis on the "zoo"). You pronounce it phonetically. It's not a terribly uncommon name, actually.

I'm with nopatience on this one. Sounds like he got pissed because baby's mama got a new man, and he wasn't havin' it.

Well, haven't you ever seen SpaceBalls: The movie?
Princess Vespa is played by Daphne Zuniga. She's been in Melrose Place and One Tree Hill. (I had to look that up.)

So sorry to hear that; its gotta be tough being a single parent not only financially but emotionally. I commend anyone who does it. My husband was on the opposite side of the whole paturnity/child support thing and it sure as hell felt like the system was against him/us. They were always unfriendly and slow about everything! Our govn't at its finest. When his daughter was born they were no longer together and she pulled the "if u break up with me u will never see ur daughter" card. She moved back to Kentucky and he was here in Ohio. Needless to say he was not there for the birth and did not sign the birth certificate so paturnity needed to be established. She called the child support office they opened a case and provided her with a family court lawyer free of charge. The judge ordered the paturnity test. My husband was in jail at the time (long story and thankfully he grew up and turned his life around), because he was considered property of the state he didn't have a say in the matter and a DNA sample was taken. Not only did they slap him with a 425 a month support order without an obvious source of income; just saying that's a pretty steep payment 19 years ago. They also sent him a bill for arrears of 3 years beginning the month she was born. Oh, and the 750 paturnity test bill. The fact that this same option isn't available to you today frankly pisses me off. I am sure the money that funded these programs was allocated to something much more important like vouchers for the digital cable boxes! I am done ranting, sorry for the super long post. My heart goes out to u and stay strong. You got the better end of the deal. All the smiles, laughs, and milestones he will miss. But most importantly the hugs, kisses, and I love yous...NOTHING is better.
