MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A 35-year-old man from Citra is facing charges of animal cruelty after reportedly stabbing his mother's cat in the neck.

Just before 6 a.m. on Sunday, Matthew Leon Eastman's mother called the Marion County Sheriff's Office to report that her son stabbed her cat because it was aggravating him.

Reports say a deputy arrived and saw a "very large amount of blood" in Matthew's bedroom and in the living room. The deputy said the cat was still alive, but it had a large cut on its neck and was moving very slowly.

According to reports, Eastman said during the investigation, "I cut that cat's throat for coming around me and my puppy all night. It was aggravating me."

The cat was taken to an emergency animal clinic and it is not clear whether or not it survived.

Eastman was booked in the Marion County Jail with a bond set at $2,000.
