Body Found Floating In Bay Off Virginia Key, south Florida

A popular South Florida beach turned into a crime scene Monday morning after a body was discovered floating in the water.

Police said it appeared to be a man's body found floating off Hobie Beach in Virginia Key near the William Powell Bridge on the Rickenbacker Causeway.

Miami homicide investigators have responded to the scene.

That's it so far. Quite a few homeless people live there, so I wonder if this person will ever be ID'd.

Miami Police have identified the man whose body was found floating in Biscayne Bay underneath the William Powell Bridge along the Rickenbacker Causeway.

Police say the victim is 45-year-old Ernesto Puentes. No other details were released.

The Miami Police Department didn't say how long the body had been in water before it was discovered on Monday but a Miami Herald photographer who arrived on the scene very quickly told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that it appeared the body had been in the water for some time. He said it appeared to be the body of a man in his mid 30s with black hair and missing some clothing. Police said the man was Hispanic, standing 5'8" and weighing 150 pounds.

The body was discovered around 9:40 a.m. Police ruled it a homicide.
