Letter Promoting KKK Rally Circulating in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A one-page letter laced with racism and hate has shown up at a number of Oklahoma businesses.

The letter's opening line is, "Hello Fellow White Oklahomans and Christians," followed by "Oklahoma is Redneck KKK Country." The top of the page reads "White Christians' Fraternal Order."

The letter, dated April 7, is a promotion for the Ku Klux Klan and an upcoming rally at the Oklahoma State Capitol. It was sent to a number of businesses including an Edmond bank and the Black Chronicle newspaper in Oklahoma City.
The letter goes on to read, "We want to reassert white supremacy through terrorism and intimidation. We want to bring back lynching" and "we want a law passed so that Oklahoma Darkies are only allowed to come out from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m."

"It almost makes me want to vomit," said Ladonna Holmes, an Oklahoma City resident who read the letter.

The name listed on the envelope's return address is the John Birch Institute. Wisconsin-based John Birch Society said they are not responsible for the letter.
More, plus the letter in question: http://www.news9.com/global/story.asp?s=12306486

It's obvioulsy some kind of joke... everything is spelled right.

Sad. I wonder who instilled so much hate in their ignorant little hearts? You have to really feel sorry for people like this, they really are pathetic. I would hate to walk around life that proud to be downright stupid.

We get crap like that periodically in our area. It's some wacko-quacko church that does it. Causes a big OMG every time.

Does make for an nice conversation with the kids. You know me - everything can be a "teaching moment". ;) Even if the shitheads don't intend MY message.

Nice straw man. And you gave it room in your home.

It is an open secret that people who think that the Tea Party folks are absoblodylutely wrong and dangerous for America are planning to disrupt Tea Partys the length and breadth of America on April 15 -- the day federal income taxes are due. How? With racist rhetoric, with racist signs, with racist rants to be captured on network television for the express purpose of discrediting the Tea Party movement.

See, the people planning to crash the Tea Partys and sdisrupt them will be presenting themselves as Tea Partiers. They intend to deceive people observing the events and watching the evening news regarding their real affiliations.

I hear what you are saying , but I wasn't referring to Teabaggers. I really was asking you if you believe that conservative thought = that kind of extremist outdated racism.

    It was an honest question.

    No straw man here.

You're honestly okay with using a description of a sexual act frequently committed by one male against another unaware non-consenting male to describe people with a political philosophy you disagree with?

    Why, no. No I don't.

Those seeking to disrupt the Tea Partys tomorrow will try to make you believe that the Tea Partiers do, though, by using hateful racist rhetoric so they can make the news.

    It was an honest question.

    No straw man here.

Yeah, IIRC they gave themselves that name unknowing of its other meaning.

I never said you did. I simply asked if you were comfortable using that term to describe etc.

See, that is the purpose of the straw man argument -- to get the opponent so balled up in defending something he or she never said that his or her defense of what he or she did say gets lost in the verbiage. It also works quite well in getting the audience leaning in the direction of the straw man instead of considering the legitimate points raised.

You raised two more straw men in this one answer -- that I am blaming you for coining the name "teabagger" for the Tea Party movement and that I am overwrought. Neither is the case.

    Youre a wee defensive.
    Project much?

    Always-

You stated the KKK letter may have been a ruse to "discredit conservative thought"

What does that statement say to you? My question was neither a straw man nor meant to sway anything in your direction.

It was a question and an honest one at that.

You answered by going on and on about teabaggers and racial rhetoric thrown their way...(which by the way....LOL!) which did not answer what was a pretty simple question directed at your somewhat bizarre response.

And as far as the "teabaggers", as I am sure you know, I do not give them any credence whatsoever and don't really understand where they even fit in regarding my question to you.

My apologies for butting in, but I feel as though whether or not AIFC sees conservative thought and racist/extreme thought as being the same thing is besides the point. They are linked in the minds of many, so the idea that these are false flag operations intended to exaggerate that link is not unreasonable. In fact, it's a clever way to cause an organization to lose credibility among its own.

As a Libertarian, I speak from experience. Libertarianism has been linked with fringe groups - everyone from the conspiracy theorists to the Minute Men. I'm a pretty moderate Libertarian, myself, so when I see flares of what appears to be extremist involvement within the party, it used to cause me to question my ideals. Libertarianism is no more inherently associated with extremism than is any other mainstream political ideology, but opponents are successful when they focus on the extreme elements.

Youre not butting in.....always welcome Athena.

When I asked Always that question I was truly asking her in an honest fashion and not trying to be sarcastic and create any kind of 'straw man'

Her original post only stated that the letter may have been a ruse to "discredit conservative thought", the post held no further explanation.

As liberal as I am I do not believe all conservatives and or conservative thought is racist. To believe something like that would downplay how serious the issue of racism really is or what it entails. I was genuinely surprised by the response and wanted to understand what Always was actually trying to say.

That said, Teabaggers are a radical fringe group that their own conservative party wants to distance themselves from, and in my mind do not represent the conservative majority. Do I agree with conservatives on most issues? No, not at all. Do I think that they are all a bunch of hateful racists? No, I don't.

The Teabaggers on the other hand are an entirely different story.

I believe "her" is a "him", and I get what you're saying about that much. I was just mentioning that, whether he believed it or not, the meat of his assertion was the suggestion of false flag operations, which would make what he believed about conservatism to be moot.

As for the Tea Partiers... I don't actually believe them to be a fringe group. I believe them to be - like the Libertarian Party - greatly afflicted by extremists. The Tea Party platform is a valid one - one of fiscal conservatism that was primarily sparked by the bailout and other stimulus spending. It was comprised of people of many political ideologies... but seems to have been hijacked to an extent by other ideologies piggybacking on their media attention.

The letter goes on to read, "We want to reassert white supremacy through terrorism and intimidation. We want to bring back lynching" and "we want a law passed so that Oklahoma Darkies are only allowed to come out from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m."
This was not composed by a Klansman. Darkies? A Klansman would have used the N word. We would not use the word terrorism either.....doesn't sit well with our brethren in the American Legion. Also, what sort of Klansman would want negroes outside after 9:00 p.m.? You cannot see what they're doing at night. That just does not make sense. You don't say you want to intimidate people....you use code words. One would say...."We want to restore law and order." That sort of thing. This letter is a fraud.
Yet know, my master, God omnipotent,
Is mustering in his clouds on our behalf
Armies of pestilence; and they shall strike
Your children yet unborn and unbegot,
That lift your vassal hands against my head
And threat the glory of my precious crown.

Actually, Pete is right. The terminology and ideology displayed by the letter are all wrong. Also, "darkies" has got to be my favorite slur EVER.

Let me see if I can connect the dots, Echo. I will be covering a lot of ground; if yuo can't follow my logic then say so.

I described the letter initially as potentially a "false flag" operation; i.e., one undertaken under the apparent aegis of one's enemies for the express purpose of turning potential allies away from one's enemies -- in other words, hurting one's own side in order to aid it. Since the anger resulting from this type of psychological warfare is directed at one's enemies, one secures the advantage. The Viet Cong used false flag operations to great effect during the Vietnamese war; they have also been used in Iraq to my certain knowledge and I don't know why they couldn't be used equally as well in Afghanistan.

I can hear you right now. "Oh great. Now he's dragging the military into it!" Bear with me.

One does not win a battle by concentrating all one's effort on one point; instead, one strikes the front, the van, and the flank, among other tactics. crashtheteaparty.org and the shenanigans they have planned to carry out tomorrow are but one assault on one flank of the conservative movement. This faux letter from the KKK looks a helluva lot like another one.

    I'm telling you it's false.
Generally letter written by the real Klan are hand written and so full of bad grammar and bad spelling, you can't help but giggle.
It does say "Ya'll" in it, but that's accepted bad spelling/grammar in most states.

    Wow Al,
I've been reading The Art of War for the last couple of days and it seems like you just pretty much summed up a few chapters right then and there.
    NICE
There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilization -- these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit ~ C. S. Lewis

No; I'm not saying black folks had anything at all to do with this. I am saying that the possibility that the Tea Party Movement's enemies did it -- without regard for skin color -- is non-zero. They and their predecessors have been trying to paint the Republican Party, conservatives, Fox News, the major AM talk show hosts, and anybody else to the right of or less authoritarian than Fidel Castro as a racist for decades. This looks like same shit different day from them.

That's kinda funny Aslan, as that I just downloaded the Art of War to my kindle. I am going to warrent a groan, but I think it should be required reading in Politics classes.

But anyway, people seem to think that smart racist folks don't exist. They do(even though I personally think racism on any scale is a form of mental illness) and well, might have been allowed to actually put together the letter this time.

Or it could very well be a ruse.

My opinion: It's up in the air. Here in Louisiana there are times where you can get your hand on one such a letter. Most likely from a KKK reject.

Much of the meat of the book is in the Notes and Commentaries in the back (assuming you bought the Giles translation). Don't skip them.

<Northernspark> Cat's have their own logic.

<DamagedGoods> I like my stupid people like I like my snow, close enough that I can enjoy the view, but not so close that it has any affect on me.

    Al---

I understand what you are saying now and it very well could be. The initial post really had no explanation at all and to me was a broad sweeping statement that I really did not understand.

Now I am clear as to what you were trying to convey.

    And Cadbury---

Racism being a form of mental illness.......very interesting and thought provoking statement.

What exactly does the teaparty movement have to do with racism? Are there going to be faux KKK members at a teaparty rally wearing white cloaks and hoods? Im really confussed.

My opinion....this has nothing to do with politics. Just a hate monger trying to be funny. Not Klan related, and just plain retarded.
